Drives and operates utility vehicles, rescue trucks, engines, aerial ladder trucks, and related vehicles to level of certification; participates in community risk reduction, training, maintenance, and public safety education activities; and performs the required tasks of daily shift operations at the direction of the Lieutenant. Once qualified, may serve as an Acting Driver / Operator and Acting Company Officer to manage the shift operations and volunteer firefighters as assigned.</p> <p>Under the direction of the Lieutenant, assists with providing daily training to all daytime and nighttime shift personnel. Firefighters may be assigned to assist with collateral duties at the direction of the Deputy Chief of Operations to include the SCBA Program, equipment inventory and management, fire hose testing, EMS inventory and other operational programs and duties.</p> <p>Under the direction of the Deputy Chief of Operations, routinely flex his/her 40hr workweek to provide coverage behind shift firefighters prearranged annual leave, unscheduled sick leave, including overnight shift coverage as needed or required, assist with duties related to logistical support, including the shuttling of fire apparatus to fleet and/or 3rd party vendors, annual pump and hose testing programs, inventory management, and technical program support, etc.</p> <p>JOB SUMMARY</p> <p>CORE VALUES and COMPETENCIES</p> <p>All members of the GFD are expected to be guided by, demonstrate, and lead others in the departments core values of Integrity, Loyalty, Accountability, Service, and Teamwork (ILAST).</p> <p>Firefighters should positively demonstrate the following competencies:</p> <ul> <li>Respect for diversity and inclusion </li><li>Teamwork </li><li>Job motivation </li><li>Service orientation </li><li>Adaptability </li><li>Initiative in learning </li><li>Strong oral and written communication skills </li><li>Strategic thinking </li><li>Innovation and problem Solving </li><li>Good judgement </li><li>Decision making </li></ul> <p>Respond to all emergency, non-emergency, and public assistance calls to prevent or minimize the loss of life and property.</p> <p>Understand and comply with the department's Standard Operating Guidelines (SOG's), Employee Handbook, Organizational Chart, and Chain of Command.</p> <p>Complete as necessary call reports, training reports, maintenance requests, and other department documentation. Read and review email on a regular basis and effectively respond in a timely manner.</p> <p>Maintain a sound knowledge of the city's geography, sub-divisions, buildings, and infrastructure.</p> <p>Assist with the care, cleaning, maintenance, testing, reporting, and documentation of fire stations, grounds, fire apparatus and other vehicles and equipment used in the performance of duties.</p> <p>Participate in all on-duty training and safety programs conducted or provided. Provide shift training as requested.</p> <p>Assist in the on-duty delivery of public education programs in fire safety and fire prevention.</p> <p>Assist with building re-inspections and pre-plans under the direction of the Lieutenant or Fire Prevention Bureau.</p> <p>Maintain positive, effective working relationships with department volunteers. Assist and support volunteer firefighters in the completion of training requirements and duties as needed.</p> <p>Maintain minimum training requirements and certifications as required by the department.</p> <p>Consistently promote a professional image of the department at all times.</p> <p>Other related duties as assigned by the Fire Chief, Deputy Chief of Operations, Battalion Chief(s), and/or Lieutenant(s).</p> <p>QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>High school diploma or GED required. An Associate's degree (A.A.) from an accredited two-year college or technical school in Fire Science, Fire Administration, Business Administration or a related field preferred.</p> <p>CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS</p> <ul> <li> <p>General</p> </li><li> <p>Valid Colorado driver's license and good driving record.</p> </li><li> <p>Current/Valid CPAT certificate is preferred.</p> </li><li> <p>Fire Certifications</p> </li><li> <p>State Certified Firefighter I by the State of Colorado. An equivalent Firefighter I certification that meets or exceeds NFPA 1001 requirements may be considered.</p> </li><li> <p>State Firefighter II or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire. An equivalent Firefighter II certification that meets or exceeds NFPA 1001 requirements may be considered.</p> </li><li> <p>Hazardous Materials Operations by the State of Colorado. An equivalent Hazardous Materials Operations certification that meets or exceeds NFPA 1072 requirements may be considered.</p> </li><li> <p>NWCG FFT2 qualification or ability to obtain within 12 months.</p> </li><li> <p>EMS Certifications</p> </li><li> <p>Basic Life Support (BLS) or higher CPR/AED Certification.</p> </li><li> <p>Certification as an EMT. Paramedic qualification is preferred.</p> </li><li> <p>Engineer Certifications</p> </li><li> <p>State certified Driver/Operator-Utility or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to obtain State or Department Driver/Operator-Pumper within 36 months of hire.</p> </li></ul> <p>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES</p> <p>To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty in a competent manner. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.</p> <p>All current Golden Fire Department Volunteer Firefighters shall acknowledge that failure to successfully satisfy pre-offer and post-offer selection process requirements, which address suitability or physical requirements, or otherwise reveal disqualifying factors, may result in dismissal from volunteer appointment.</p> <p>LANGUAGE SKILLS</p> <p>Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from customers and the general public. Ability to provide dynamic and persuasive presentations to community groups and internal customers. Ability to prepare and write appropriate reports and procedures. Ability to effectively communicate over 2-way radio systems.</p> <p>REASONING ABILITY</p> <p>Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.</p> <p>OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES</p> <p>Must possess excellent customer service skills with ability to positively interact with diverse populations. Must be proficient in use of MS Office with working knowledge of Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint. Ability to utilize the Internet for research. Ability to become proficient in web-based staffing, reporting and deployment software programs such as Telestaff, Active 911, ESO, and our Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) System. Ability to become proficient with 2-way radio systems including 7/800MHz and VHF. The ability to work remotely when requested or required; knowledge and proficiency in utilizing MS Teams, Zoom, and WebEx remote engagement platforms.</p> <p>Ability to maintain knowledge, skills, and abilities through recurrent training to perform the tasks assigned as required by the Fire Chief.</p> <p>MATERIALS & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED</p> <p>All fire equipment, fire apparatus, instructional equipment, and office equipment of the department.</p> <p>PHYSICAL DEMANDS</p> <p>The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.</p> <p>Must have the physical endurance and agility necessary to meet the demands of the job as outlined by the NPFA. Position requires standing, running, walking, sitting, kneeling, stooping/bending, lifting, squatting, pushing, pulling, crawling, jumping, sliding, climbing, pinching, gripping, digging, spraying, reaching over head, reaching away from body, and repetitive motion. Must be able to operate at higher elevations in relation to the ground and do so with mobility and flexibility without jeopardizing the safety of self or other members.</p> <p>Ability to lift items heavier than 100 pounds occasionally and up to 60 pounds frequently.</p> <p>Strenuous physical activity under extreme adverse conditions may be required periodically.</p> <p>WORK ENVIRONMENT</p> <p>The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.</p> <p>While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to a variety of locations and conditions, including, but not limited to, the fire station, other similar inside work areas, and emergency scenes of every type. Will be required to work in all weather conditions and in extreme temperatures. Work may be performed under hazardous and adverse conditions, including but not limited to, weakened structures, slippery and uneven surfaces, proximity to moving mechanical equipment, burning structures, broken glass or other materials, electrical currents, high places, and confined spaces.</p> <p>The employee may be exposed to contaminated environments, including but not limited to, hazardous materials, smoke, gases, chemicals, fumes, odors, mists and dusts. Work may result in exposure to air or bloodborne infectious diseases or illnesses, such as Hepatitis A, B or C, HIV, tuberculosis, smallpox, etc. May be exposed to high noise levels requiring the wearing of hearing protection.</p> <p>This position demands frequent use of sensory activities such as talking, seeing, hearing, smelling, feeling (identifying objects by touch), depth perception and color vision.
