<p>Summary</p> <p>Reports to the Practice Manager. Responsibilities include the coordination of activities related to electrophysiology patients and the Device Program. Provides periodic device evaluations on all patients enrolled in the Device Program (during office visits and/or by utilizing transtelephonic monitoring). Coordinates and implements the Device Program, patient education and patient follow-up. Serves as a resource person for professionals inquiring about electrophysiology, pacemakers and ICD. Provides professional and community educational programs as required. Be on their team. </li></ul> <p>Performs various duties related to electrophysiology patients and the Device Program by:</p> <ul> <li>Assisting with the scheduling of electrophysiology procedures. </li><li>Assisting with the scheduling of all electrophysiology patients' device follow-up checks (in accordance with Medicare guidelines). </li><li>Maintaining Device Program charts. </li><li>Providing patient education (such as distributing device literature) at the initial office evaluation. </li><li>Analyzing and testing program devices in the office or transtelephonically. </li><li>Communicating and providing test results to the physicians of the practice. </li><li>Providing instructions to patients regarding care of the surgical site and the use of transmitters (and magnets where appropriate). </li><li>Maintaining accurate and updated files for Device Program patients (i.e., patient charts, device information and computer database). </li><li>Maintaining the database that is used for the Device Program. </li><li>Serving as a back-up to the Medical Assistant. </li><li>Assisting with the coordination of physician/patient schedules, including hospital work flow. </li><li>Answering patient calls; also communicating appropriately with physicians and providing documentation in the patient's records. </li><li>Responding to patient and pharmacy requests for prescription medication refills, consulting with the physician regarding the request and following the physician's standard protocol; also may fill prescription requests with samples as appropriate and according to BMG policy. Providing documentation in the patient's records. </li><li>Assisting with a symptomatic unstable patient in the office by providing a physical assessment of the patient. Documenting significant findings and reporting to the attending physician as warranted. </li><li>Promoting timely feedback and acting as a liaison between the patient's family and their primary care physician. </li><li>Administers I.V. and other medications in the office as requested by attending physician. </li><li>Facilitating admissions, transfers and procedural orders on an ongoing basis with the attending physician. </li></ul> <p>Serves as a resource person for professionals inquiring about electrophysiology, pacemakers and Implantable Cardiac Defibrillators (ICD) - - and provides educational/training sessions - - by:</p> <ul> <li>Providing formal and informal educational/training sessions for the clinical staff. </li><li>Providing community education as needed or requested. </li></ul> <p>Performs other functions to maintain personal competence and contribute to the overall effectiveness of the department by:</p> <ul> <li>Being responsive to clients' needs. </li><li>Projecting an image of professionalism at all times. </li><li>Maintaining records, reports and files as required. </li><li>Participating on committees as requested. </li><li>Completing other job-related duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES</p> <p>Associate complies with the following organizational requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared. </li><li>Completes mandatory education, annual competencies and department specific education within established timeframes. </li><li>Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes. </li><li>Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year. </li><li>Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required by position/department. </li><li>Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self. </li><li>Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance. </li><li>Complies with established organization and department policies. </li><li>Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required. </li></ul> <p>Commitment to Beacon's six-point Operating System, referred to as The Beacon Way:</p> <ul> <li>Leverage innovation everywhere. </li><li>Cultivate human talent. </li><li>Embrace performance improvement. </li><li>Build greatness through accountability. </li><li>Use information to improve and advance. </li><li>Communicate clearly and continuously. </li></ul> <p>Education and Experience</p> <ul> <li>The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of an Associates Degree or professional training. IBHRE certification preferred. A minimum of 2 years of job-related experience required. A minimum of two years in pacemaker and ICD follow-up preferred. Must maintain current BLS certification. Working knowledge of established physician office procedures and practices. Non-invasive catheterization and critical care experience is preferred. Certification with NASPE (National Society Pacing Electrophysiology) is preferred. ACLS required within one year of hire and must maintain current certification. </li></ul> <p>Knowledge & Skills</p> <ul> <li>Requires working knowledge of established physician office procedures and practices. </li><li>Requires advanced knowledge of the clinical implications of electrophysiology, pacemakers and ICDs. </li><li>Requires knowledge of BMG's policies/procedures and practices. </li><li>Requires the ability to provide effective training; also requires the ability to prepare and maintain training materials (and adapt them as necessary to suit various audiences). </li><li>Demonstrates the interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written) necessary to interact effectively with clients, families, Physicians, other medical personnel and a diverse general public. </li><li>Requires proficient computer skills (i.e., data entry, word processing, spreadsheets and computerized audio-visual equipment). Advanced knowledge of database applications is desired. </li><li>Demonstrates the ability to ensure confidentiality is maintained. </li><li>Demonstrates a genuine attitude of caring and the desire to serve the patient while using sound judgment. </li><li>Demonstrates advanced analytical and problem-solving skills; also requires the ability to function independently. </li><li>Requires the ability to administer I.V.s and other medications as directed by a physician. </li></ul> <p>Working Conditions</p> <ul> <li>Works in a medical office environment. </li></ul> <p>Physical Demands</p> <ul> <li>Requires the physical ability and stamina (i.e. to walk/stand for prolonged periods of time, push carts/wheelchairs up to 50 pounds, to position/lift patients at a maximum of 35 pounds unassisted, over 35 pounds requires assistance, provide CPR, etc.) to perform the essential functions of the position. </li></ul>
