Since our founding as a neighborhood community center in 1942,</p> <p>MMCC has served the needs of thousands of neighbors from all cultural backgrounds,</p> <p>religions, races, ethnicities, sexual orientations, and special needs.</p> <p>The mission of MMCC is to improve the lives of Bronx and Manhattan residents with our</p> <p>dedication to humanitarian efforts; reaching out to a rich tapestry of cultures, building</p> <p>gateways to success through quality service and programs, building confidence,</p> <p>sustainability and working towr58ard self-sufficiency for the individuals we serve.</p> <p>Position Summary:</p> <p>The College Counselor will join the College Bound program; College Bound is designed</p> <p>to provide all students interested in going to college with access to the information</p> <p>necessary to make informed decisions. College Bound provides students with one-onone</p> <p>help to further their endeavors and guide them navigating their post-secondary</p> <p>education journey whether it is applying to college, trade school, military or figuring out</p> <p>what is the next step and how to get there.</p> <p>The College Counselor will provide college-going advice to students and families to</p> <p>carefully track student outcomes using the College Bound online student tracker tool to</p> <p>meet performance metrics and goals. The College Counselor will serve part-time at an</p> <p>assigned school site to provide post-secondary support to students. The College</p> <p>Counselor will also be responsible for attending on-going in-service trainings, team</p> <p>meetings, and may be asked to work on other projects specific to the partnership with</p> <p>the assigned school. The College Counselor will report to the Program Director at</p> <p>College Bound and an on-site liaison at the assigned school.</p> <p>Duties include, but are not limited to the following key activities:</p> <p>College Counseling: Serve as a college counselor, leading efforts to increase college</p> <p>preparation and college enrollment rates among high school students at assigned</p> <p>school sites. College counseling services are offered on a one-one basis and in group</p> <p>settings which include: coordinating and presenting in class workshops designed to</p> <p>increase college awareness, helping students identify and apply to college, assisting</p> <p>students with various steps of the college application process, helping students search</p> <p>and apply for financial aid and scholarships, and supporting students as they make the</p> <p>transition from high-school to college.</p> <p>Communication: Provide professional, customer-service oriented communication with</p> <p>students, their families, and high-school partners. Establish productive working</p> <p>relationships with principals, counselors, and teachers in assigned partner schools.</p> <p>Data Collection & Management: Enter data on a daily basis into College Bound online</p> <p>college tracker tool updating the progress of the student's college applications, financial</p> <p>aid and scholarships.</p> <p>? Oversee and maintain student caseload of up to 90 students assisting and</p> <p>guiding them through the entire college process</p> <p>? Creating content/material for all high school grades topics involving college</p> <p>readiness and career exploration</p> <p>? Facilitate college readiness workshops in a class setting for 12th grade students</p> <p>and/or parent's multiple times throughout the school year where topics will</p> <p>include applying to college, student opportunity programs, essay writing, and</p> <p>financial aid to name a few</p> <p>? Meet with students, individually and in groups, to talk about the college process</p> <p>and individual college choices, post-secondary plan, and work readiness plans.</p> <p>? Educating and exposing students and parents about colleges, the college</p> <p>admissions process, trends, procedures, financial aid; advising students and</p> <p>families as they go through the process; and helping students and families aspire</p> <p>realistically and make appropriate choices- may work with all high school</p> <p>grades</p> <p>? May facilitate college presentations in a class setting for 11th graders on college</p> <p>and career exploration</p> <p>? Identify and establish linkage with ASAP, BON, EOP, HEOP SEEK, and various</p> <p>other programs on their college campus to support students.</p> <p>? Additional office and program duties as requested by the department.</p> <p>? Coordinate college field trips relevant to student population as needed</p> <p>? Maintain flexible hours and workdays</p> <p>Required skills/dispositions:</p> <p>? Bachelor's degree in education, Counseling, Psychology, or related field</p> <p>required.</p> <p>? Bilingual preferred- Spanish speaking</p> <p>? Minimum of 2 years of college counseling experience preferred.</p> <p>? Reliable, organized, flexible and punctual.</p> <p>? Full understanding of the College /Fafsa, Common Application, University</p> <p>admissions process.</p> <p>? Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with program staff</p> <p>and school staff.</p> <p>? Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills with proven</p> <p>ability to interact with a diverse range of individuals both in person and over the</p> <p>phone, applying tact and discretion as situations demand.</p> <p>? Must have excellent organizational, time management and follow-up skills.</p> <p>? Responsible and professional conduct that serves as a role model to staff and</p> <p>youth.</p> <p>? Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.</p> <p>? Must demonstrate ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.</p> <p>?
