<p>Deputy Editor - MBN Magazine</p> <p>Location Springfield, VA</p> <p>Position Number 1773</p> <p>Apply Now</p> <p>Job Announcement</p> <p>Deputy Editor - MBN Magazine</p> <p>Primary Function:</p> <p>The Deputy Editor supports the Editor-in-Chief in shaping editorial strategy, managing content, and ensuring MBN Magazine delivers accurate, engaging, and culturally relevant stories that reflect the brand's voice and vision.</p> <p>Essential Duties and Responsibilities:</p> <p>The following tasks are considered essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodation may be provided to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these functions:</p> <p>Editorial Leadership & Content Management</p> <ul> <li> <p>Work closely with the Lead Editor to plan, commission, and manage a balanced mix of columns, features, guest commentaries, and cultural coverage in both Arabic and English.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintain MBN- Alhurra Magazine's distinct editorial voice-sharp, accessible, and globally relevant-while ensuring all content reflects a strong MENA regional focus.</p> </li><li> <p>Oversee content from ideation through publication, ensuring pieces are compelling, factually accurate, and aligned with MBN's strategic vision.</p> </li><li> <p>Edit and refine submissions for clarity, narrative sharpness, and adherence to MBN's storytelling standards.</p> </li></ul> <p>Contributor & Talent Management</p> <ul> <li> <p>Cultivate and manage a diverse roster of regular columnists, guest commentators, and rising voices from the MENA region, the US, and beyond.</p> </li><li> <p>Guide contributors to produce sharp theses and avoid overly long or unfocused narratives.</p> </li><li> <p>Collaborate with high-profile contributors inside the company and contractors to adapt their work for the magazine format.</p> </li></ul> <p>Multimedia Integration</p> <ul> <li> <p>Work with podcast and video teams to ensure seamless integration of multimedia content into the magazine (Spotify, YouTube, embedded video features).</p> </li><li> <p>Ensure visual and video elements enhance the storytelling and maintain a premium magazine aesthetic.</p> </li></ul> <p>Cultural & Feature Story Development</p> <ul> <li> <p>Commission and oversee in-depth cultural and societal stories, ensuring they connect to broader news and regional narratives.</p> </li><li> <p>Develop recurring cultural segments for Al-Diwan to reinforce the magazine's brand identity.</p> </li></ul> <p>Quality Control & Brand Identity</p> <ul> <li> <p>Uphold the magazine's identity within MBN-Alhurra-visually distinct, intellectually elevated, and regionally focused.</p> </li><li> <p>Ensure all stories meet high editorial standards in tone, design, and presentation.</p> </li></ul> <p>Audience Engagement & Growth</p> <ul> <li> <p>Monitor audience feedback and analytics to refine editorial strategy and expand readership among elite MENA and Western audiences.</p> </li><li> <p>Coordinate with social media and marketing teams to promote magazine content effectively.</p> </li></ul> <p>Other Duties:</p> <p>Perform additional job-related duties and take on new responsibilities as needed based on organizational requirements and circumstances.</p> <p>Qualifications and Requirements:</p> <p>Candidates are required to have:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Media, or related field.</p> </li><li> <p>Minimum 5 years of editorial or magazine experience, including content planning and editing.</p> </li><li> <p>Strong writing and editing skills in Arabic and English.</p> </li><li> <p>Proven ability to guide contributors and manage diverse voices.</p> </li><li> <p>Experience with multimedia integration and content management systems (CMS).</p> </li><li> <p>Knowledge of SEO and digital publishing best practices.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to meet deadlines and maintain high editorial standards under pressure.</p> </li></ul> <p>Equal Opportunity Statement</p> <p>MBN is an equal opportunity employer.
