<p>The Peer Support Specialist is a full time, grant funded, non-civil service position located within the General Sessions Court. In this capacity, the incumbent performs paraprofessional duties within the Recovery Court, using lived experiences in recovery and history of criminal justice involvement to provide direct services and support to participants. A successful candidate must be willing to self-identify as a person with direct personal experience living in recovery from substance use and/or mental health conditions.</p> <ul> <li>Works directly with Recovery Court participants to support their establishment of social support systems and recovery plans. </li><li>Coordinates with Recovery Court team to help address barriers for participants in reaching their goals and meeting program expectations. </li><li>Advocates on behalf of Recovery Court participants. </li><li>Identifies and supports linkages to community resources. </li><li>Models personal responsibility, self-advocacy, and hopefulness. </li><li>Assists participants in identifying personal interests, goals, strengths, and weaknesses. </li><li>Understands various 12-Step/Self-Help programs. </li><li>Develops relationships with community organizations. </li><li>Shares personal recovery experiences and develops authentic, mutual peer-to-peer relationships. </li><li>Accompanies participants, when requested, to access community resources. </li><li>Complies with agency policy, participant, rights, and maintains confidentiality. </li><li>Participates regularly in supervision. </li><li>Attends Staffing and Status Hearings regularly. </li><li>Makes recommendations to improve Peer Support Specialist role. </li></ul> <p>EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE</p> <p>High School Diploma or equivalent and one (1) year of public contact work.</p> <ul> <li>No Substitution* </li></ul> <p>LICENSE REQUIRED</p> <p>Tennessee Certification as a Peer Recovery Specialist. </p> <p>Successful candidates will have at least three years of sobriety in recovery experience, prior experience working with vulnerable populations preferred, specifically survivors of human trafficking and those at risk of sexual exploitation and is self-motivative and can work autonomously.</p> <p> </p> <p>Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply.</p> <p> </p> <p>Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078.
