<p>Job Description:</p> <p>Special Education Teacher</p> <p>Position Title: Special Education Teacher - Watertown Transition Academy</p> <p>Location: Watertown Transition Academy</p> <p>Position Reports To: Interim Director of Special Education and Pupil Personnel Services,</p> <p>Director of Curriculum and Instruction for General and Special Education</p> <p>and Building Administrator</p> <p>Job ID: #2344</p> <p>Internal Close Date: July 18, 2025</p> <p>External Close Date: August 1, 2025</p> <p>Anticipated Start Date: Upon Completion of Onboarding; Contractual year begins July 1; First day</p> <p>of school year is August 21, 2025</p> <p>Required Certifications & Qualifications</p> <p>Current State of Connecticut Teaching Certificate #165</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Experience and affinity for working with students that have diverse academic, social, emotional and behavioral needs at the secondary level and beyond </li><li>Strong background in transition programming for students who have completed high school academic requirements </li><li>Ability to develop and implement individualized transition plans focused on post-secondary education, employment, and independent living skills </li></ul> <p>Essential Skills, Knowledge Performance Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Helps to create a positive classroom and school culture </li><li>Provides academic, social and emotional education and supports through the preparation and implementation of engaging, interactive lessons </li><li>Provides instruction with life skills and helps to facilitate successful integration of students into the community and local workforce </li><li>Case manages the development and implementation of IEPs for students assigned to their caseload </li><li>Assists students and teaching staff in implementing students IEPs and behavior management plans </li><li>Conducts diagnostic evaluations of students for the purpose of identifying learning issues and/or social, emotional or behavioral needs and recommending courses of action that maximize learning </li><li>Observes, collects data, and evaluates students' progress toward achieving IEP goals and objectives and prepares/shares reports on students' performance </li><li>Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents </li><li>Implements innovative and effective behavioral strategies and techniques based on students' needs </li><li>Implements behavioral intervention plans with fairness and fidelity </li><li>Provides differentiated and integrated instruction for all academic content areas </li><li>Works with all staff to modify and accommodate for students with special needs to facilitate their access to classroom instruction, activities, field trips, recreational opportunities, etc. </li><li>Directs, schedules and assists in training paraprofessional staff to support students' learning </li></ul> <p>Additional Duties</p> <ul> <li>This position reports to the interim Director of Operations and Director of Curriculum and Instruction for Special and General Education, the Interim Director of Special Education and Pupil Personnel Services, and the Building Administrator </li><li>Perform all other duties that may be assigned </li></ul> <p>Terms of Employment</p> <ul> <li>188 Days </li><li>Refer to Watertown Education Association Union Contract </li></ul> <p>Work Schedule</p> <ul> <li>Monday - Friday, 7:30am-2:40pm </li></ul> <p>All application materials must be submitted online, through Applitrack; should you have any difficulty in submitting your online application please contact (860)945-4813.</p> <ul> <li>District reserves the right to close the posting if a suitable candidate is found prior to the external closing date. </li></ul>
