<p>Essential Duties</p> <ol> <li>User Training: Provide technical training and guidance to users of the research core. 2. Experiment Support: Contribute to experimental design, execution, data analysis, and troubleshooting for research projects using established protocols within the research core. 3. Facility/Instrument Support: Support research core operations, including specialized equipment maintenance. 4. Technique Development: Optimize experimental protocols and workflows. 5. Data Analysis/Interpretation: Analyze and interpret complex scientific data. 6. Equipment Procurement: Assist in the installation and maintenance of specialized research core equipment. 7. Professional Development: Stay updated with relevant scientific literature and advancements in the field. Participate in professional development activities and scientific conferences. 8. Scientific Participation: Collect and analyze scientific data for manuscript preparation and grant proposals 9. Vendor Relations: Maintains vendor relationships, evaluates products, and collaborates with purchasing for timely procurement of laboratory supplies. 10. Education and Outreach: Participate in education and outreach activities within the core, including tours, events, etc. </li></ol> <p>Required Education and Experience</p> <p>Bachelor's degree in a related discipline and two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of skills, education, and experience.</p> <p>Background Check Requirements</p> <p>All candidates for employment will be subject to pre-employment background screening for this position, which may include motor vehicle, DOT certification, drug testing and credit checks based on the position description and job requirements. For additional information on the background check requirements and process visit "Learn about background checks" under the Applicant Support Resources section of Careers on the It's Your Yale website.</p> <p>Position Focus:</p> <p>YASIC is a Yale Research Core equipped with five Stable Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometers, an Inductively Coupled Mass Spectrometer, an Ion Chromatograph, a Greenhouse Gas GC, a Total Organic Carbon Analyzer, and other scientific equipment. The successful candidate will provide specialized technical support for the Yale Analytical and Stable Isotope Center (YASIC), focusing on operating, maintaining, and instructing facility users in sample preparation equipment and radiocarbon analysis. YASIC operates a Mini Carbon Dating System (MICADAS) from IonPlus which expanded YASIC's isotopic analysis capabilities to include radiocarbon-14 analysis for Carbon Dating. Research focuses on climate change and carbon capture. Anthropological and museum specimens are also analyzed. The Staff Scientist will be responsible for the MICADAS operation and training including peripheral sample preparation devices. Peripheral equipment includes the Automated Graphitization Equipment (AGE3), a CHS2 (Carbonate Handling System), a Pneumatic Sample Press (PSP), a Gas Interphase System (GIS), and Tube Sealing Equipment (TSE) from IonPlus. Two Elementar Elemental Analyzers are also utilized with the GIS and the AGE3 for gas and graphite measurements.</p> <p>Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:</p> <p>Advanced degree in a relevant technical discipline.
