<p>A Genetic Counselor I (GCI) functions as a member of the Precision Health (PH) Clinical team by providing education, training, and consultation for health care providers (HCP) and patients regarding germline and somatic genetic characteristics that influence patient management. The (GCI) role will be provide counseling to patients referred for hereditary cancer, prenatal/reproductive genetics, and/or hereditary cardiovascular indications.</p> <p>KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:</p> <p>KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:</p> <p>In the sections below, please minimum education/training (degrees, certifications, and licenses) necessary to enter the job. Provide the minimum job-related, and industry experience necessary to enter the job. Be specific about what qualifications/skills are required to handle the responsibilities of the job.</p> <p>EDUCATION: Master's Degree from an American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) accredited genetic counseling training program. ABGC board certification or eligibly for certification. Education and/or experience in personalized medicine and pharmacogenetics is preferred but not required.</p> <p>YEARS OF EXPERIENCE: 1-3 years of experience</p> <p>REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:</p> <ul> <li>Strong knowledge of human genetics, inheritance patterns, genetic disorders, and risk assessment </li><li>Ability to interpret genetic test results and communicate findings effectively to patients and healthcare providers </li><li>Excellent verbal and written communication skills to explain complex genetic concepts in an understandable way </li><li>Strong counseling and interpersonal skills to provide emotional support and guidance to patients and families </li><li>Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team </li><li>Attention to detail and strong analytical skills for evaluating genetic and medical data </li><li>Experience with Microsoft Office programs, family history collections tools (e.g., Progeny), risk assessment models (e.g., Tyrer Cuzick, Gail, Dutch FH) </li><li>Familiarity with genetic databases and variant interpretation tools (e.g., ClinVar, OMIM, HGMD) </li></ul> <p>LICENSES REGISTRATIONS &/or CERTIFICATIONS:</p> <p>ABGC Board Certification within 12 months of hire</p> <p>Must be able to obtain OH State full license within 12 months of hire</p> <ul> <li>Conduct family history assessments and genetic risk evaluations for cancer, cardiac, and/or prenatal indications </li><li>Explain genetic conditions, inheritance patterns, and testing options to patients and families </li><li>Provide support and education to patients regarding genetic disorders and potential health risks </li><li>Collaborate with physicians, laboratory personnel, and other healthcare professionals </li><li>Coordinate genetic testing, interpret results, and communicate findings to patients and providers </li><li>Maintain accurate patient records and documentation in compliance with regulatory guidelines </li><li>Stay updated on advancements in genetics and contribute to patient education initiatives </li></ul>
