<p>Job Description:</p> <p>SUMMARY: Assist in small group and individual pupil instruction</p> <p>Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Other duties may be assigned</p> <ul> <li>Assist students with instruction under the direction of the special education teacher. </li><li>Assist teacher in maintaining discipline and other (non) instructional units. </li><li>Position requires lifting, positioning, and toileting student. </li><li>Regular attendance is required for this position. </li><li>Will involve work with special education students under the direction of teachers. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications:</p> <p>To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.</p> <p>Education and/or Experience:</p> <p>High School Diploma or General Education Degree. Two years of college credit OR hold an associate's (or higher) degree; OR successful completion of a paraprofessional assessment which assesses content knowledge in mathematics, reading and writing and an understanding of how to assist in the instruction of these topics (Parapro Assessment).</p> <p>Language Skills:</p> <p>Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.</p> <p>Reasoning Ability:</p> <p>Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.</p> <p>Physical Demands:</p> <p>The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, and talk or hear. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must be able to push items of fifty (50) pounds, such as pushing children on a bike or wheelchair or moving/rearranging furniture. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds. When doing heavier lifting, the employee should do so with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and peripheral vision.</p> <p>Work Environment:</p> <p>The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is typical of classrooms having school children and is a standard acceptable level for this environment. This employee will work throughout the school building, on school grounds and occasionally off campus.
