We worship together, serve one another, and grow in faith as we learn in the classroom, on the field, at chapel, and anywhere else we're doing Life Together.</p> <p>Position Summary</p> <p>Facilitates the development of an environment in the residence hall that encourages growth and development in the lives of students through whole person discipleship. </p> <p>This position is primarily responsible to:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Testify to personal experience of salvation in Jesus Christ, affirm belief in the University's Statement of Faith, abide by and practice our Life Together Covenant, and both personally agree with and support the Foundational Documents of Taylor University. </p> </li><li> <p>Coordinate whole student educational, spiritual, and social programming for the residential apartments.</p> </li><li> <p>Assist with housing student placement. </p> </li><li> <p>Direct all administrative functions for assigned residence hall including conduct, building operations activities, budgets, maintenance, on-duty responsibilities, and emergency operations.</p> </li><li> <p>Offer support for residents in personal adjustment and conflict, intervene in crisis situations, and maintain current files of counsel, discipline, and informal advising sessions.</p> </li><li> <p>Supervise student staff of Personnel Assistants (PAs) and Discipleship Assistants (DAs); responsible for the election and training of Graduate Assistants, Discipleship Coordinators, Discipleship Assistants, and Personnel Assistants.</p> </li><li> <p>Remain available and visible to students on a regular basis. The hall director serves as a liaison between students and other administrators, working to be acquainted with all students, developing rapport with students, and participating at hall and campus events.</p> </li><li> <p>Submit weekly, semester, and annual reports to leadership.</p> </li><li> <p>Communicate as necessary to keep the Associate Vice President for Student Development / Director of Residence Life informed regarding problems, trends, and issues within the residence hall.</p> </li><li> <p>Contribute to the university's faculty governance by participating in regular faculty meetings and committee assignments. </p> </li><li> <p>Continue professional development through participation in conferences, article writing, and professional presentations; participate in the faculty promotion process.</p> </li><li> <p>Participate in the development, growth, and encouragement of Graduate Assistants working with Residence Life; assist in training Graduate Assistants, as needed, in planning and operation of Residence Life experience.</p> </li><li> <p>Other duties as assigned.</p> </li></ul> <p>Education and Experience</p> <ul> <li>Master's degree in student development, counseling, higher education, or related field, required. </li><li>Previous experience mentoring and discipling college-age students. </li><li>Previous experience in Residence Life, preferred. </li></ul> <p>Skills and Competencies</p> <ul> <li> <p>Excellent and engaging professional and interpersonal verbal and written communication skills.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with others from varying cultures and backgrounds.</p> </li><li> <p>Commitment to relational ministry that is supportive and challenging.</p> </li><li> <p>Collaborative team player who can also work independently.</p> </li><li> <p>Effective conflict management skills.</p> </li><li> <p>Able to exercise initiative and sound judgment.</p> </li><li> <p>Demonstrated ability to supervise student employees and counsel individuals on a one-on-one basis regarding a variety of issues.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and responsibilities.</p> </li><li> <p>Demonstrated problem-solving ability including evaluation of crisis and emergency situations.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to design and implement social programs for residence life audience.</p> </li><li> <p>Must be available to respond and provide basic support; required to carry a cellphone.</p> </li><li> <p>Must possess a valid driver's license and clean driving record; must obtain university van certification within one month of employment.</p> </li><li> <p>Competent in utilizing various computer software, including Microsoft Office suite.</p> </li><li> <p>Physical Demands</p> </li><li> <p>Moderate physical activity; requires handling of average-weight objects up to 20 pounds, may require use of stairs.</p> </li><li> <p>Must be able to respond promptly to emergencies when on-call.</p> </li><li> <p>Work Environment</p> </li><li> <p>The Residence Hall Director is a live-in position where the individual maintains an on-campus apartment as their primary residence. Housing and a meal plan are provided for the employee (and family members, if applicable) to allow the Hall Director to be present and carry out responsibilities.</p> </li><li> <p>The Hall Director will remain on duty from August 1 - May 31, except during vacations when the residence halls are closed; Hall Director most close residence hall before each vacation period and return 18 hours before the halls official open after vacation periods.</p> </li><li> <p>On-campus presence is required during Homecoming, Parent's Weekend, the first and last weekend of each semester, and other weekends as assigned on the weekend on-call schedule.</p> </li><li> <p>Environmental Conditions</p> </li><li> <p>Limited exposure to cleaning chemicals, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.</p> </li></ul>
