<p>Job Description</p> <p>Responsible for driving enterprise-wide operational readiness, space activation, and integration of new spaces, technologies, and care models. Oversees the planning and execution of Moves, Occupancy, and Equipment (MOE) processes and transition strategies to ensure infrastructure changes are fully aligned with operational objectives. Collaborates with clinical and non-clinical stakeholders to ensure that staffing models, workflows, physical environments, and systems are seamlessly integrated to support long-term sustainability and high-performance operations. Contributes to operational strategy, regulatory alignment, and performance improvement initiatives. Work is performed under general direction. Direct report to the UMMC Vice President of Operations.</p> <p>Primary Responsibilities</p> <p>The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job responsibilities performed.</p> <ul> <li>Serve as a strategic operational leader, aligning infrastructure and space changes with clinical and business goals. </li><li>Collaborate with clinical and administrative leaders to assess readiness for service line needs, space reconfigurations, and departmental transitions. </li><li>Direct the full lifecycle of space activations from planning through go-live, including milestone development, operational test planning, issue resolution, and post-occupancy evaluations. </li><li>Lead interdisciplinary teams in preparing newly constructed, renovated, or repurposed spaces to ensure operational readiness, continuity, and regulatory compliance. </li><li>Integrate staffing, workflows, safety protocols, equipment needs, and regulatory requirements into activation planning and execution. </li><li>Lead MOE planning and manage transitions across clinical and support services, including move logistics, occupancy tracking, stakeholder communication, and equipment deployment. </li><li>Collaborate with Supply Chain, IT, Clinical Engineering, and service line leaders on equipment planning, procurement, and deployment. </li><li>Represent hospital operations in planning, design, and FF&E (furniture, fixtures, and equipment) decisions for new and refreshed spaces, ensuring alignment with functional and operational needs. </li><li>Collaborate with design, facilities, and communications teams to create signage systems that align with operational workflows, support safety and accessibility standards, enhance patient, visitor, and staff experience and reinforce the hospital's brand identity. </li><li>Support the space allocation and management process for School of Medicine, FPI and UMB space and serves as the operational lead for the institution's Strategic Space Committee. </li><li>Lead and execute high-impact projects including new program launches, service relocations, and innovative care model implementations; provide executive-level reporting, accountability, and change management. </li><li>Track activation, MOE, and transition metrics to identify performance gaps and lead targeted corrective actions. </li><li>Maintain dashboards, facilitate interdisciplinary meetings, and ensure strategic alignment between operational initiatives and executive priorities. </li><li>Develop and execute operational strategies aligned with the hospital's mission to enhance performance, patient outcomes, and efficiency. </li><li>Provide budgetary oversight for operational functions, including capital requisitions and business case development. </li><li>Establish and align performance metrics with organizational priorities to drive operational accountability and outcomes. </li><li>Ensure alignment of operational readiness and activation efforts with regulatory standards and compliance requirements. </li><li>Partner in business continuity and emergency preparedness planning to ensure operational resilience. </li><li>Oversee and perform managerial functions including hiring, training and development, and preparing performance reviews in accordance with UMMS policies and procedures. </li><li>Perform other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Company Description</p> <p>The University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) is an academic private health system, focused on delivering compassionate, high quality care and putting discovery and innovation into practice at the bedside. For more information, visit www.umms.org.</p> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>Education & Experience</p> <p>Required</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Architecture, Nursing, or related field, or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. </li><li>Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in hospital operations, space planning, systems integration, or transition management, including at least 5 years in leadership roles managing cross-functional teams and large-scale operational initiatives in complex healthcare settings. </li><li>Proven success leading MOEs, space activations, and operational transitions in academic medical centers or integrated health systems. </li><li>Experience working within academic medical centers or integrated health systems, with deep understanding of clinical workflows, healthcare regulations, and interdisciplinary coordination. </li></ul> <p>Education & Experience -</p> <p>Preferred • Master's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Architecture, Nursing, or related field.</p> <ul> <li>PMP (Project Management Professional), Lean, Six Sigma, or equivalent process improvement certification. </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Strategic and systems-oriented thinker with demonstrated expertise in healthcare operations, space activation, and transition management. </li><li>Advanced skill in identifying and implementing innovative operational solutions that enhance efficiency, quality, and organizational effectiveness. </li><li>Advanced leadership skills, including the ability to motivate and inspire staff to high performance levels, resolve conflict, establish alignment and clear direction, prioritize initiatives, optimize workflows, and create a goal-driven environment supported by well-defined procedures and performance metrics. </li><li>Exceptional ability to articulate vision, engage stakeholders, and deliver compelling reports, proposals, and presentations. </li><li>Advanced skill in change management and communication planning to support large-scale adoption of new spaces, processes, and technologies. </li><li>Data-driven and outcomes-focused, with a commitment to continuous improvement, safety, and operational excellence </li><li>Proven ability to influence key decision making across diverse functional areas including executive management. </li><li>Exhibit sound judgment and self-direction, operating confidently and constructively without the need for detailed guidance </li><li>Proficient in project management tools (e.g., Smartsheet, MS Project) with working knowledge of design tools (e.g., AutoCAD and Revit). </li><li>Advanced skill managing cross-functional, multi-dimensional teams and projects of the highest complexity which have business risk and impact. </li><li>Expert skill developing and maintaining collaborative working relationships with all levels of leadership and staff. </li><li>Expert skill presenting findings, conclusions, alternatives and information clearly and concisely at all levels within the organization. </li><li>Expert analytical, critical thinking, strategic thinking, planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills. </li><li>Expert skill using innovative thinking to solve problems and facilitate the decision-making process. </li><li>Advanced skill in the use of Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint). </li><li>Expert verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. </li></ul> <p>Additional Information</p> <p>All your information will be kept confidential according to EEO guidelines.</p> <p>Compensation</p> <ul> <li>Pay Range: $60.76-$97.01 </li><li>Other Compensation (if applicable): </li></ul> <p>Review the 2025-2026 UMMS Benefits Guide</p> <p>Like many employers, UMMS is being targeted by cybercriminals impersonating our recruiters and offering fake job opportunities.
