<p>Job Description:</p> <p>Harwinton and Burlington are serene townships nestled amidst state forests and parks bordering the Farmington Valley to the south and the Litchfield Hills to the north. The towns share a border with Farmington, Avon, Bristol to the South/West and Litchfield and Torrington to the North. We look forward to receiving your candidacy and we welcome a diverse candidate pool!</p> <p>Position: .9 FTE General and Vocal Elementary Music</p> <p>Location: Lake Garda School</p> <p>Reports to: Building Principal</p> <p>Starting Date: The Commencement of the 25-26 SY</p> <p>Qualifications: CT Endorsements 049 (Music Pk - 12)</p> <p>Bachelor's from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment. Master's Degree preferred.</p> <p>The LGS general music and vocal instructor is a key member of a school community dedicated to growing the whole child. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive general music and vocal instructional programming that will develop students' understanding and appreciation of music, including exploration and exposure to a wide range of musical genres, periods and styles. Candidates should have knowledge of music literacy, particularly as it pertains to tonal and rhythm aural skill development in young learners. The music teacher will identify, promote and develop each student's talents in vocal and instrumental musical expression, including singing, harmonization, and chorus and will foster a love of all ways music enriches our lives.</p> <p>The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge and experience to successfully engage with the following duties as a reflective practitioner and as a member of a collaborative school team:</p> <ul> <li>Engages in pedagogical best practices in support of the RSD 10 Vision of the Graduate, Shared Definition of High-Quality Learning and the district's Equity commitments </li><li>Develops a balanced music program and lessons to organize class time so that students have adequate time for preparation, rehearsal, and instruction. </li><li>Conducts ongoing assessment of student musical learning and progress, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs. </li><li>Utilizes repertoire of all types of music literature, as appropriate. </li><li>Plans, coordinates rehearsals for, and directs students in musical programs (including scheduled performances/concerts) and performances outside the classroom. </li><li>Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, and/or by conducting research. </li><li>Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures. </li><li>Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents. </li><li>Coordinates with the Principal, Program Coordinator, and other professional staff members, especially within grade level, and participates in faculty meetings and committees. </li><li>Selects and requisitions appropriate music supplies and classroom instrumental equipment, and ensures equipment is in good working order. </li><li>Creates learning opportunities where students can analyze and evaluate artistic expression both intellectually and emotionally. </li><li>A secure knowledge of Kodaly, Gordon's Music Learning Theory and/or Feierabend's First Steps in Music education is preferred. </li><li>Ability to instruct elementary singing techniques, play an instrument that can accompany choir, conduct students performing vocal and general classroom instruments (Orff, Ukulele, etc.) </li></ul> <p>Date Posted: Thursday, July 10th, 2025 Application Deadline: Friday, July 18th , 2025 4:00 p.m.</p> <p>Application Procedure for Internal Candidates: Interested RSD 10 faculty should complete a full application on Frontline, inclusive of a current letter of interest to the attention of the Director of Teaching and Learning, an updated resume, and current certifications.</p>
