<p>Position Description</p> <p>Event Services is the one-stop-shop for event production on Biola's campus; handling the pre-production, setup, operation and teardown of audio, video, lighting, staging, rigging, tables, chairs and other event-related equipment.</p> <p>The Production Supervisor, a key member of the Event Services department, provides leadership, direction and coordination of event details and production design for the Event Services team. This role is the "point person" for coordination and production of all major university events. When necessary, the Production Supervisor may also be required to assist with the maintenance, set up, operation, and break down of lighting, audio, video, and physical equipment for concerts, sporting events, meetings, presentations, chapels, banquets, other special events both on and off campus.</p> <p>Alignment with Theological Positions</p> <p>The person who fills this position must be someone who personally agrees with Biola's Articles of Faith and who is supportive of the positions taken by Biola as contained in its Statement of Biblical Principles and Eschatology Teaching Position. As such, this person may not speak against or act in a manner inconsistent with these positions during the course of their employment at Biola.</p> <p>Department</p> <p>Event Services</p> <p>Supervision Received</p> <p>The Production Supervisor reports to the Director.</p> <p>Educational Requirements</p> <p>Either a bachelor's degree in a relevant field and three years of experience in audio/video/lighting support; or a minimum of five years of related industry experience in audio/video/lighting support required.</p> <p>Work Requirements</p> <p>Non-exempt (02), full-time - 40 hours/week, 12 months per year.</p> <p>This position requires personal attendance at Biola's campus in La Mirada, California.</p> <p>Essential Duties</p> <p>? Work with minimal supervision from the Director of Event Services on coordinating, designing and scheduling routine set ups for university events.</p> <p>? Work with consultation and counsel from the Director of Event Services on coordinating, designing and scheduling major campus events including, but not limited to: Commencement, Welcome Week events, Torrey Bible Conference, Family Weekend, Missions Conference, Christmas Tree Lighting, Conference Services events and Summer Conference program, etc.</p> <p>? Work with the Campus Coordinator and customers in collecting details for events in regards to their production design, physical needs (tables, chairs, stages, drape etc.), and technical needs (audio, video, lighting etc.)</p> <p>? Work with the Technical Supervisor in finalizing the creation of audio/video/lighting details for events in work order form.</p> <p>? Ensure events executed by the department are set up, operated, and torn down with precision and efficiency. Maintain presence on-site at events which require partial or continuous student/staff supervision.</p> <p>? Oversee the scheduling and organizing of the daily workload of event requests to ensure the proper sequence and time frame so that the work gets completed in a timely manner.</p> <p>? Responsible for reviewing and finalizing labor records after event completion.</p> <p>? Interview, hire, train and directly supervise approximately 25-35 departmental student employees yearly, maintaining university limitations on student hours. At times, provide indirect supervision over Event Services staff engineers.</p> <p>? Intake client service issues for the department via email, phone and in-person; delegate amongst department staff dependent on severity of the issue.</p> <p>? Produce and maintain event diagrams.</p> <p>Additional Duties</p> <p>? When necessary, load, move, deliver, setup, pickup, breakdown and store event related equipment for events both on and off campus.</p> <p>? Assist with the review and negotiation of any on- or off-campus talents, technical riders and contracts.</p> <p>? Assist in maintaining an inventory of department resources.</p> <p>? Assist with ensuring that all equipment is functional and take a proactive approach to maintenance and repair.</p> <p>? Assist the Director of Event Services with coordinating the purchase of new equipment for replacement of outdated or faulty equipment.</p> <p>? Assist the Director of Event Services with arranging for the rental of equipment as needed for events on and off campus.</p> <p>? Coordinate with department staff to provide estimates for customers.</p> <p>? Be aware of and comply with safe working and event industry practices.</p> <p>? Perform similar duties as assigned.</p> <p>Objective Goals to be Attained</p> <p>? Ensure work orders are written and assigned and crews scheduled at least two weeks in advance of event(s).</p> <p>? Seek personal development opportunities in regards to leadership of student crews.</p> <p>? Work with intentionality to develop and strengthen relationships with clients and departments across campus.</p> <p>Required Skills/Qualifications</p> <p>Technologies Utilized</p> <p>? Will use planning and task management software such as Google's Workspace series of products (Gmail, Calendar, Docs, Sheets, Drive, etc.), Asana, FileMaker Pro, or similar applications.</p> <p>Technical Skills/Qualifications</p> <p>? Experience in configuring, programming, setting up and running audio, video and lighting systems.</p> <p>? Knowledge to troubleshoot technical issues.</p> <p>? Experience with diagram/design software and programs.</p> <p>? Knowledge and experience in working with both PCs and Macs.</p> <p>? Knows how to effectively mix for Front of House, Monitors and Broadcast, using analog or digital consoles.</p> <p>? Has a working knowledge of speaker systems, including proper use of amplifiers, crossovers, equalizers, and audio processors.</p> <p>? Must have a good understanding of both dynamic and condenser mics, being able to choose the right mic for the right application.</p> <p>? Knowledge of projection systems and their configurations, production video formats, video switchers, scan converters, scalers, distribution amplifiers, etc.</p> <p>? Ability to edit or create graphics for use during events such as chapels.</p> <p>? Experience in using lighting consoles, fixtures (both conventional and intelligent), and DMX addressing.</p> <p>? Knowledge of power consumption and circuit capabilities.</p> <p>? Familiarity with using power distribution, dimmers, opto-splitters, etc.</p> <p>? Experience with production rigging.</p> <p>General Skills/Qualifications</p> <p>? Think systematically, with the capacity for developing and utilizing technology for organizational effectiveness. Must be able to improve systems and processes, promoting efficiency.</p> <p>? Has the ability to and enjoys both working independently and as a team.</p> <p>? Adaptable to change, whether organizationally, technologically, etc.</p> <p>? Be a self-starter, needing little supervision to achieve necessary outcomes.</p> <p>? Positive personality with a "can do" attitude.</p> <p>? Excellence in listening and oral or written communication, whether it is to the public, students, faculty or staff.</p> <p>? Able to accurately distill information to make actionable decisions, utilizing spreadsheets and other forms of presentation.</p> <p>? Good public relation skills, is empathetic, and has the ability to work collaboratively and harmoniously with co-workers, customers and others.</p> <p>? Able to maintain the "big picture" without losing track of the small but important details.</p> <p>? Has the ability to think ahead and mitigate future problems or seize future opportunities.</p> <p>? Knowledge of how to use the event venue's environment (i.e. event content, hanging points available, amount of power available, fixture availability) to the event's advantage.</p> <p>? Ability to address various production needs, such as those of camera operators, video directors, audio/video/lighting technicians, stage managers and event planners.</p> <p>? Ability to focus time and efforts where they are needed most, especially in stressful environments.</p> <p>? Prior experience in an educational environment is preferred.</p> <p>? Must have a valid California driver's license.</p> <p>Physical Skills/Qualifications</p> <p>? Ability to stand, walk, use hands, reach, move and crawl.</p> <p>? Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.</p> <p>? Ability to occasionally lift a minimum of 50 lbs. off the floor and load on an electric cart (tables, chairs and other equipment.)</p> <p>? Ability to work a full 8-hour shift on your feet.</p> <p>? Ability to climb a 12ft. ladder and work with a lift.</p> <p>? Ability to work at heights.</p> <p>?
