<p>The Communications Technician will be part of a team responsible for deployment and maintenance of the University's voice and data Telecommunications cable infrastructure, Ethernet and Wireless networks providing LAN services across campus. Job requirements include an Associate's degree with strong computer and PC Skills such as Windows and/or Apple, along with familiarity with LAN and Ethernet technologies in a corporate environment. Knowledge of wireless technology that can be applied to an enterprise environment is desirable.</p> <p>Education and Experience</p> <ul> <li>Associate's degree with 3-5 years' work experience within the field. </li><li>Strong computer and PC Skills such as Windows and/or Apple, along with experience with LAN and Ethernet technologies in a corporate environment. </li></ul> <p>Skills and Knowledge</p> <ul> <li>A+ Certification </li><li>Network Certification such as (Network+, CCNA, CWCA) </li><li>Structured Wiring Certification </li><li>Familiarity with LAN, and Ethernet Networking and Wireless Technologies </li><li>Knowledge of structured wiring in a campus environment </li><li>Personal computer skills such as Windows and/or Apple </li><li>Knowledge and use of Microsoft Office Suite and Visio Applications </li><li>Good customer and communications skills are essential and the ability to take direction while working independently is a must. </li></ul> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Work independently with little or no supervision, and in teams in diagnosing complex network and voice related problems, using computer-based software, specialized tools, test equipment, and well-developed technical skills. </li><li>Provide 24hr x 7 day/week emergency coverage for campus-wide telecommunications and network problems. </li><li>Coordinate and oversee the installation of communications facilities and pathways with internal and external vendors. </li><li>Provide consulting and estimating service to the campus community for telecommunications and network services. </li><li>Interact with all segments of campus community daily in person, via telephone and electronically. Design, install and maintain special communication facilities that provide vital services to the campus community. </li><li>Install, terminate and test voice, data, and video communications cable using specified manufacturers and industry standards. </li><li>Requires proficiency and in-depth knowledge of TIA/EIA 568 Standards. </li><li>Design, install, test, and document various types of communications facilities, such as: Ethernet network connections, 802.11x wireless networks, analog and digital voice lines, and fiber optic circuits and connections for both Single and Multimode fiber optic cabling systems. </li><li>Configure, install, and maintain network electronics including Ethernet switches, wireless network equipment and UPS devices. </li><li>Document all new installations, repairs, and changes to the campus voice and data network to ensure accuracy in billing records, floor plans, work histories and connection information using a variety of desktop and client server software applications. </li></ul> <p>Physical Requirements</p> <p>Physical Mobility</p> <ul> <li>5% sitting, 20% standing, 25% walking, 15% kneeling, 10% stooping, 5% climbing stairs, 20% climbing ladders. </li></ul> <p>Physical effort</p> <ul> <li>Lifting 50 pounds waist high, 40 pounds shoulder high, 30 lbs above head. </li><li>Must be able to carry weight 20ft. Weight is pushed 40%, pulled 40%, and held 20% of time. </li></ul> <p>Physical dexterity</p> <ul> <li>Operating telephone 5%, computer/electronic equipment 40%, hand tools 40%, power tools 10%, and manipulating small objects 5%. </li><li>Ability to see, distinguish colors, hear/listen, touch and speak is essential to work. </li><li>Work requires reading, writing, basic arithmetic, analyzing data and problem solving on a daily basis. </li><li>Work environment involves 85% indoor, 10% outdoor, and 5% of time in auto vehicle. </li></ul> <p>Tools/Equipment</p> <p>A valid driver's license and vehicle are required for the position.</p> <p>Application Instructions</p> <p>In addition to completing an online application, please attach a resume and cover letter.</p>
