<p>Under general supervision from the Canine Care Center Supervisor or designee, is responsible for the care, feeding and handling of dogs.</p> <p>Available Shifts:</p> <ul> <li>Sunday 9:30- 5:30, Monday, Tuesday and Friday 10:30 - 6:30, Saturday 9:30 -5:30 </li></ul> <p>(Wednesday and Thursday Off}</p> <ul> <li>Sunday, Monday, Thursday Friday and Saturday 7:00-3:00 (Tuesday and Wednesday Off} </li><li>Sunday 9:30 -5:30, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 10:30 -6:30, Saturday 9:30 -5:30 </li></ul> <p>(Thursday and Friday Off}</p> <p>ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS</p> <p>Feed, water, walk and provide general care for dogs.</p> <p>Bathe dogs.</p> <p>Clean assigned kennel areas to provide a sanitary and disease-free environment.</p> <p>Assist in the euthanasia of dogs.</p> <p>Assist in the medical care and intake of dogs, as needed.</p> <p>Assist citizens in identifying their impounded dogs.</p> <p>Assist citizens in meeting adoptable dogs and doing dog-dog introductions as needed.</p> <p>Perform custodial duties in restrooms, offices and other non-kennel areas.</p> <p>Maintain equipment and grounds.</p> <p>Launder and provide clean dog bedding.</p> <p>Attend off-site adoption events.</p> <p>Assist with SAFER evaluations once trained.</p> <p>Update computerized kennel records as needed.</p> <p>Additional duties as assigned.</p> <p>Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities</p> <p>Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers and fractions</p> <p>Ability to read and understand written instruction and/or direction</p> <p>Ability to follow verbal directions.</p> <p>Ability to work independently and effectively with supervisors, co-workers and volunteers.</p> <p>Ability to effectively communication with patrons, volunteers and staff.</p> <p>Ability to use animal handling equipment within a shelter environment, including specialized handling of dangerous dogs.</p> <p>Ability to work under stressful conditions.</p> <p>Ability to control and move dogs weighing up to 150 pounds.</p> <p>Must be able to regularly lift and carry up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks daily.</p> <p>Must be able to occasionally lift up to 75 pounds.</p> <p>Must be able to occasionally lift up to 150 pounds with assistance.</p> <p>Must be able to walk, stand for long periods of time, bend, squat, and reach.</p> <p>Ability to demonstrate physical fitness; demonstrate agility (to move whole body quickly and easily); demonstrate dexterity (to use hands and/or feet skillfully)</p> <p>Must be able to distinguish between shades of color</p> <p>Knowledge of dog behavior and breeds*</p> <p>(*) May be learned after employed.</p> <p>UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS:</p> <p>Some overtime required</p> <p>Exposure to varied and unusual odors, loud noises and chemicals.</p> <p>Exposure to challenging or difficult customer situations.</p> <p>Exposure to, wet, dirty, humid environment.</p> <p>Exposure to all types of weather</p> <p>Work requires restraining, lifting and carrying dogs' cages and equipment.</p> <p>Exposure to insect pests such as fleas and ticks.</p> <p>Possibility of being bitten or scratched.</p> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>High school graduate or equivalent OR any equivalent combination of experience, education, training and/or certification as determined by the employer.</p>
