The UC Irvine Libraries physical spaces consist of the Langson Library, the Science Library, the Library Gateway Study Center, and the Grunigen Medical Library. The Libraries' IT Department is primarily responsible for all technical operations in the Libraries including desktop support, application development, server/service administration, and cloud computing services. The department also has responsibilities in cybersecurity, backups, administration of the Libraries Services Platform (library catalog) and database administration. Your Role on the Team This role specifically focuses on ensuring accessibility compliance with WCAG 2.1 AA standards for UCI Libraries[CC1.1] sites and services, in alignment with Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Applies QA and / or Release Management concepts, training, unit policies and procedures to test a variety of moderately complex accessibility changes or enhancements. Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced digital communications professional for a variety of non-routine and moderately complex web site applications, ensuring accessibility compliance. Demonstrates a full understanding of industry practices and organization policies and procedures. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions to accessibility needs for the Libraries. What It Takes to be Successful Required: Minimum 1-3 years of experience. Thorough skills and experience to create and maintain accessible web sites and systems that provide content consistent with the organization's message and in keeping with management directives and client objectives. Demonstrates a working knowledge of accessibility principles, including the design and evaluation of accessible content. Working understanding of the use of accessibility testing tools, including skill to perform automated and manual accessibility testing. Thorough understanding of accessibility compliance in higher education. Thorough understanding of technical language and requirements of the assigned work. Thorough interpersonal communication skills. Thorough skills to develop and implement original ideas and correctly identify and effectively solve problems. Ability to work creatively, collaboratively, and effectively and to support inclusiveness within UC Irvine Libraries and the campus. Bachelor's degree. Preferred: Thorough knowledge of content management systems and / or relevant web applications used for web production and organization-specific computer application programs. Demonstrated knowledge of Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) as it applies to digital accessibility. Certified as Web Accessibility Specialist (WAS) or Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC) Working knowledge of SiteImprove or similar system for accessibility scanning.
