<p>Mission Cancer & Blood, part of University of Iowa Healthcare is searching for Chemotherapy Staff Nurse to administer chemotherapeutic/biologic agents as well as participating in patient and family teaching regarding chemotherapeutic side effects and oncology disease process. Provides outpatient care to the oncology patient and collaborates with the physician as well as other team members to implement quality care.</p> <p>Position Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Provide direct nursing care for patients primarily in the administration of chemotherapy and related oncologic therapies. </li><li>Educate patients and families regarding the side effects of chemotherapy/biotherapy and the oncology disease process. </li><li>Act as a resource for patients, families and other health professionals. </li><li>Coordinate chemotherapy orders with physicians and physician's nurses. </li><li>Mix and administer chemotherapy, hydration and other medications as ordered. </li><li>Document nursing assessments, patient instruction, fluid and medication administration. </li><li>Perform venipunctures, access implanted ports and maintain central line catheters. </li><li>Maintain knowledge of reimbursement procedures and accurately document chemotherapy charges. </li><li>Monitor patient's clinical treatment by performing nursing assessments and providing appropriate and timely interventions. </li><li>Follow established policies, procedures and objectives including safety, environmental and/or infection control standards. </li><li>Communicate and coordinate with outside agencies, staff and patients to ensure a continuum of care. </li><li>Properly evaluate laboratory findings. </li><li>Perform other job-related duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Percent of Time: 100%</p> <p>Schedule: Day Shift</p> <p>Location: Des Moines, IA Mission, Cancer & Blood</p> <p>Salary: $60,000 (at 100% effort) to commensurate *this does not include inpatient or shift differential</p> <p>Benefits Highlights:</p> <ul> <li>Fringe benefit package including paid vacation; sick leave; health, dental, life and disability insurance options; and generous employer contributions into retirement plans </li><li>For more information about Why Iowa?, click HERE! </li></ul> <p>The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by persons assigned to this position. Mission Cancer + Blood, part of University of Iowa Health Care reserves the right to change, amend, add, delete, and otherwise assign any and all duties, responsibilities and position titles as it deems necessary to meet the needs of the business.</p> <p>Education Required</p> <ul> <li>An Associate's Degree in Nursing, a Diploma in Nursing, a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Professional Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader or a Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA) is required </li></ul> <p>Experience Required:</p> <ul> <li>Minimum of two (2) years' experience in oncology nursing, including chemotherapy administration </li><li>Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required </li><li>Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members as demonstrated through written and verbal interactions </li><li>General computer skills are required </li><li>Current license to practice nursing in Iowa is required by date of hire </li><li>Current BCLS </li><li>Knowledge of HIPAA and confidentiality policy and procedures </li></ul> <p>Desirable Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or Master's Degree in Nursing is highly desired </li><li>If Baccalaureate degree in Nursing is not yet obtained, active enrollment in a BSN program is desirable </li><li>Knowledge of company and university policies and procedures </li><li>Oncology Nursing Certification is desirable </li><li>Knowledge of CT Scans, X-rays, and other tests as deemed necessary </li><li>Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to maintain a safe work environment </li></ul> <p>Please attach a resume as part of the application process.
