The department is a leader in early response times and its dedicated officers work with the community to keep neighborhoods problem-free. The BHPD values its reputation as an agency that earns the public's trust through efficient, impartial police service.</p> <p>What We're Looking for</p> <p>The City of Beverly Hills Police Department is seeking highly motivated and qualified candidates for the position of Police Officer Trainee.</p> <p>Police Officer Trainees are non-sworn civilian employees until they successfully graduate from the Police Academy and are sworn in as Police Officers.</p> <p>Distinguishing Characteristics</p> <p>While distinctively uniformed as a non-sworn officer in training; develops minimum qualifications required for a career in law enforcement.</p> <p>Supervision Received and Exercised</p> <p>Receives technical supervision from a Police Officer or higher level sworn classification. Note: Falsifying one's education, training, or work experience or attempted deception on the application may result in disqualification for this and future job opportunities with the City of Beverly Hills.</p> <p> </p> <p>Disaster Service Workers</p> <p>All City of Beverly Hills employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employment with the City requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.Examples of Essential Duties - Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: </p> <p>Performs duties to protect life and property.</p> <p>Maintains law and order and responds to emergency calls.</p> <p>May patrol the City enforcing the criminal and traffic laws of the City, State and Nation.</p> <p>May perform investigations or training duties.</p> <p>Receive academy instruction in Police Department policies and procedures, weaponless defense, criminal and civil law, physical fitness techniques, use of firearms,</p> <p>arrest procedures, community relations, operation of emergency vehicles, and other mandated courses.</p> <p>Observe sworn police personnel in the processing arrestees, including booking, fingerprinting, custody, and control.</p> <p>May perform non-sworn police support functions, such as traffic and crowd control as directed during training process.</p> <p>Experience and Training</p> <p>Experience:</p> <p>No experience is required; however, candidates with prior internship or experience in a government/municipal public safety department are highly desirable.</p> <p>Training:</p> <p>Track 1: At least 36 semester units (or 54 quarter units) from an accredited college or university at the time of application. Must provide a diploma, official or unofficial transcripts at time of application.</p> <p>Track 2: A minimum of four years of active duty in the U.S. Armed Services (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard) after an Honorable Discharge. (Must provide Form DD214 at time of application.)</p> <p>License and Certificate:</p> <p>Possession of a valid California driver's license and satisfactory driving record.</p> <p>Other Requirements</p> <p>Must be a citizen of the United States of America, or a lawful permanent resident, at the time of application.</p> <p>Minimum 20.5 years of age at time of appointment.</p> <p>Must be able to meet physical standards.</p> <p>Must meet psychological and background standards that reflect the following: </p> <p>Must be found to be free from any physical, emotional, or mental condition, including bias against race or ethnicity, gender, nationality, religion, disability, or sexual orientation that might adversely affect the exercise of the powers of a peace officer.</p> <p>Must be of good moral character, as determined by a thorough background investigation. </p> <p>Knowledge of: </p> <p>Standard office practices, methods, and procedures; use of computer equipment and relevant software.</p> <p>Ability to: </p> <p>Qualify for and meet the ongoing standards of a P.O.S.T. certified basic police academy. </p> <p>Understand and follow written and oral instructions.</p> <p>Intermittently, review, and evaluate documents related to department operations; observe, identify, and problem solve office operations and procedures; understand, interpret, and explain department policies and procedures; explain operations and problem solve issues for the public and with staff.</p> <p>Use sound judgment in recognizing scope of authority.</p> <p>Operate and use standard office equipment including computers and applicable software.</p> <p>Maintain regular attendance and adhere to prescribed work schedule to conduct job responsibilities.</p> <p>Utilize appropriate safety procedures and practices for assigned duties.</p> <p>Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.</p> <p>Work with various cultural and ethnic groups in a tactful and effective manner.</p> <p>Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.</p>
