<p>Job Title: Embedded Software Engineer</p> <p>Job Description</p> <p>An exciting opportunity is available for an Embedded Software Developer located in Herndon, VA. The team provides innovative, cutting-edge security solutions for the United States Government, utilizing a multi-disciplinary approach to tackle challenging technical problems in the national security arena. Expertise areas include spacecraft payload and system development, ground control and operational software development, embedded software development, and unique cyber capabilities.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Develop embedded software code for spacecraft bus avionics, spacecraft payloads, and ground support equipment, including special utilities for deeply embedded systems. </li><li>Evaluate integration of the engineering solution within the overall engineering environment, ensuring completion of appropriate documentation, testing, maintenance, and engineering updates. </li><li>Communicate with engineering professionals, solution users, and management throughout the solution development cycle. </li><li>Represent the company as a prime technical contact on contracts and/or projects, coordinating technical matters between organizations. </li><li>Determine technical objectives for solutions to advanced technical engineering problems. </li><li>Function in an advisory or leadership role for projects/programs, providing direction and guidance to less experienced professional staff. </li><li>Plan and coordinate the maintenance of engineering solutions, ensuring viability in an evolving environment through documentation, reporting, publishing, and technical presentations. </li></ul> <p>Essential Skills</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree, master's degree, or PhD in a related technical discipline from an accredited institution. </li><li>High proficiency in C programming language (and/or C++). </li><li>Extensive experience with software development in the Linux environment, including command line, GCC, shell scripting, etc. </li><li>Embedded development experience, including cross-compiling to separate targets and testing/development on highly-embedded systems. </li><li>Twelve or more years of experience with a bachelor's degree, ten or more years with a master's degree, or seven or more years with a PhD. </li><li>Detailed technical expertise and application of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice. </li></ul> <p>Additional Skills & Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Experience in project leadership, organizing, planning, scheduling, and coordinating workloads to meet deadlines. </li><li>Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills for effective interfacing with other departments, customers, and government representatives. </li><li>Ability to represent the organization as a prime technical contact and provide leadership to less experienced professionals. </li><li>Expertise in all aspects of satellite system design life cycle, including spacecraft level environmental testing, launch, and operations. </li></ul> <p>Work Environment</p> <p>The work environment is centered around designing and manufacturing electromagnetic and electric power generation systems.
