Great work environment</p> <p>The Mosholu Montefiore Community Center (MMCC) is a vital community resource that changes the course of lives of Bronx and Manhattan residents to a degree not otherwise possible. Each year, we serve more than 35,000 preschoolers, school age children, teens, adults and senior citizens through our support, enrichment, education, and recreation programs, expanding their opportunities to live full, productive lives.</p> <p>We have a family-like working atmosphere where everyone works as a team. Join us in building communities one life at a time and build relationships that last a lifetime.</p> <p>MMCC's College Bound & SPARC program (School Partnership for Academic and Resource Collaboration) focuses on meeting the entire student's needs (mental health, physical health, social service, educational, and any other needs preventing the child from striving/succeeding) and removing barriers that prevent the student from learning and thriving in the school and the community. The College Bound program provides students with all the necessary information to apply to college and make informed choices. The term college will be used to refer to any post-secondary education, institutions, community colleges, technical and career institutions, military academies, and four-year colleges. The SPARC program models the Community School strategy, which forms a partnership between school faculty, families, youth, and the community to raise student achievement. This dual role will incorporate being community liaison and college counselor for the assigned partner school. The SPARC College Bound Counselor will provide students with one-on-one help to further their endeavors and guide them navigating their post-secondary journey whether it is applying to college, trade school, military or figuring out what is the next step and how to get there. The SPARC College Bound Counselor will carefully track student outcomes using the College Bound online student tracker tool to meet performance metrics and goals. The SPARC counselor will report to the program director at College Bound & designated faculty at the school site.</p> <p>In the school, your role in the position will be but not limited to the following:</p> <p>College Counseling/Support: Serve as a college counselor, leading efforts to increase college preparation and college enrollment rates among high school students at assigned school sites. College counseling services are offered on a one-one basis and in group settings which include: coordinating and presenting in class workshops designed to increase college awareness, helping students identify and apply to college, assisting students with various steps of the college application process, helping students search and apply for financial aid and scholarships, and supporting students as they make the transition from high-school to college.</p> <p>Communication: Provide professional, proactive, and customer-service oriented communication with students, their families, and entire school faculty. Establish productive working relationships with principal, assistant principal, school counselors, and teachers in assigned partner schools.</p> <p>Data Collection & Management: Enter data daily into College Bound online college tracker tool updating the progress of the student's college applications, financial aid and scholarships. Data collection of all families referred to MMCC's support services and detailing follow up services provided for each family. Use this data to confidently market the program to potential partnerships/sponsors through email communication and social media.</p> <p>Community Liaison: Conduct needs assessment process, reviewing the schools desired outcome goals, and family needs to provide optimal referral services to families and students. Serve as a point person for any potential programs interested in collaborating with the school and help to broker new partnerships that are aligned with school goals and needs.</p> <p>? Facilitate cross-referral of students and families between MMCC and other service providers.</p> <p>? Collect and monitor program implementation data and student data for each partnership and initiative implemented.</p> <p>? Plan and execute school wide events such as Career Day and College Decision Day for seniors.</p> <p>? Attend & co-facilitate regular Parent meetings, School Leadership Team (SLT) ensuring the participation of diverse stakeholders and voices and regular, positive communication within the team.</p> <p>? Facilitate college readiness workshops in a class setting for 12th grade students and/or parent's multiple times throughout the school year topics will include applying to college, student opportunity programs, essay writing and financial aid</p> <p>? Meet with students, individually and in groups, to talk about the college process and individual college choices, post-secondary plan, and work readiness plans.</p> <p>? Educating and exposing students and parents about colleges, the college admissions process, trends, procedures, financial aid; advising students and families as they go through the process; and helping students and families aspire realistically and make appropriate choices. May work with all high school grades</p> <p>? Facilitate college presentations in a class setting for 11th graders on college and career exploration</p> <p>? Identify and establish linkage with ASAP, BON, EOP, HEOP SEEK, and various other special opportunity programs on their college campus to support students.</p> <p>? Promote college awareness and accessibility.</p> <p>? Provide students with information outside of college including workforce and trade schools.</p> <p>? Coordinate college field trips relevant to student population as needed</p> <p>? Maintain flexible hours and workdays</p> <p>? Additional office and program duties as requested by the department.</p> <p>Required skills/dispositions:</p> <p>? Bachelor's degree in education, Counseling, Psychology, Communications, or related field required.</p> <p>? Bilingual preferred- Spanish speaking</p> <p>? Minimum of 3 years of college counseling experience preferred and passion for this line of work.</p> <p>? Reliable, organized, flexible and punctual.</p> <p>? Full understanding of the College /FAFSA, Common Application, University admissions process.</p> <p>? Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with program staff and school staff.</p> <p>? Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills with proven ability to interact with a diverse range of individuals both in person and over the phone, applying tact and discretion as situations demand.</p> <p>? Must have excellent organizational, time management and follow-up skills.</p> <p>? Comfortably and confidently work in a fast paced environment.</p> <p>? Responsible and professional conduct that serves as a role model to staff and youth.</p> <p>? Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.</p> <p>? Must demonstrate ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.</p> <p>?
