<p>Job Description:</p> <p>Greenwich Public Schools seeks a special education teacher for the Community Connections program. Greenwich Public Schools is dedicated to providing transition services to students ages 18-22. The Community Connections program places a strong emphasis on transition to life and work, including self-advocacy and self-determination. These areas establish the foundation for all student programming. The program also functions within the three transition areas (employment, independent living, and commuity participation), which are foremost in planning for our students.</p> <p>Job Description:</p> <p>The Special Education Teacher develops and provides specialized instruction to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities, evaluates and assesses student progress against instructional objectives, follows State-mandated due process procedures, and functions as the IEP Case Manager to assigned students.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Develop daily lessons that focus on age- and developmentally-appropriate transition skills in alignment with students' IEPs </li><li>Complete triennial evaluations for individual students using a variety of assessment methods </li><li>Participate as a member of Planning and Placement Teams (PPTs) </li><li>Develop and implement annual Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in developing Present Levels of Educational Performance, appropriate goals, and objectives </li><li>Employ various teaching strategies, methods, and principles of learning to assist students in achieving their IEP goals </li><li>Effectively manage classroom and student behavior </li><li>Collaborate and consult with educational professionals and community service providers </li><li>Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with community sites in which students may participate in vocational, domestic, and recreation/leisure activities </li><li>Collaborate with the district School Counselor for Transition for job site development, transition assessments, and development of individual transition plans </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Current CT Special Education Teacher certification, or certifiability, is required (e.g., #065) </li><li>Experience with students ages 18-22 is preferred </li><li>Knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures of special education </li></ul> <p>Note: The above description is illustrative of tasks and responsibilities.
