<p>Employment Type:</p> <p>Full time</p> <p>Shift:</p> <p>Day Shift</p> <p>Description:</p> <p>Position Summary</p> <p>Acts as a clinician, educator, consultant and researcher in the development and maintenance of quality patient care and</p> <p>professional practice standards. Adheres to MercyOne's performance expectations and performs all defined services</p> <p>and other related duties in accordance with the mission, vision and values of MercyOne.</p> <p>Major Areas of Responsibility/Essential Function</p> <p>Utilizing the nursing process, analyzes, interprets, advises and consults with staff, management and</p> <p>other healthcare providers to provide high quality contemporary care.</p> <ul> <li>Conducts regular patient care rounds to assess the appropriateness of clinical practice. </li><li>Utilizes manual/automated information systems to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of </li></ul> <p>care.</p> <ul> <li>Provides immediate/ongoing education and information to staff. </li><li>Follows up with manager/director for appropriate intervention. </li></ul> <p>Provides clinical leadership through the development/ implementation of educational plans based on</p> <p>identified needs.</p> <ul> <li>Facilitates the orientation of new nurses in assigned clinical areas. </li><li>Consults and serves as a professional resource to staff. </li><li>Plans, develops and conducts education for staff. </li><li>Assists in updating and evaluating staff clinical competencies in assigned clinical area. </li></ul> <p>Identifies and implements practices and procedures that are research based to enhance clinical</p> <p>outcomes.</p> <ul> <li>Evaluates nursing research literature for incorporation into patient care activities. </li><li>Evaluates patient outcomes and assists staff in revising the plan of care to meet changing </li></ul> <p>needs.</p> <p>Works collaboratively with other healthcare practitioners to identify relevant clinical problems and viable</p> <p>resolutions.</p> <ul> <li>Applies expert knowledge to facilitate change in practice area. </li><li>Participates in performance improvement in clinical setting. </li><li>Facilitates an interdisciplinary approach to care. </li></ul> <p>Assists in the development and implementation of professional practice standards for nursing.</p> <ul> <li>Improves patient care delivery by evaluating existing standards of care and initiating new </li></ul> <p>standards as needed in collaboration with Management in the practice area.</p> <ul> <li>Advances nursing practice through personal education/research activities. </li></ul> <p>Adheres to all safety, infection control and colleague health policies and procedures.</p> <ul> <li>Attends required safety programs. </li><li>Appropriately and consistently uses the personal protective equipment required of the job. </li><li>Knows and can demonstrate departmental emergency procedures for fire, disaster and other </li></ul> <p>emergency situations.</p> <ul> <li>Reports and removes unsafe equipment/furniture. </li><li>Asks for assistance when needed to assure safety for all involved. </li><li>Maintains a safe working environment and practices safe working habits. </li></ul> <p>Certification/Licensure Required for Job:</p> <p>Licensure as RN in Iowa. Certification in specialty</p> <p>area required within 6 months of hire. Mandatory</p> <p>Reporter.
