<p>Permanent Part-time Recreation Leader I - Administrative Support.</p> <p>"Preserving the Past, while Innovating our Future"</p> <p>The City of Alexandria is in northern Virginia and is bordered by the District of Columbia (Potomac River), Arlington and Fairfax counties. If you are interested in working for the vibrant City of Alexandria, we invite qualified candidates to apply for our Recreation Leader I- Administrative Support position.</p> <p>Overview</p> <p>In pursuit of service excellence, the Recreation Leader I will provide exceptional internal and external customer service and intermediate technical level administrative support work to the Recreation Services leadership team. As the support staff of the Recreation Services Division, primary responsibilities entail preparing, maintaining and updating documents, spreadsheets, and reports, proof reading documents and reports, assisting with the recruitment of Recreation Services Temporary and Part Time employees, communicating effectively with internal and external customers both written and verbal, and other administrative duties. The successful candidate will professionally and accurately perform the assigned duties, within the limits of established policies and procedures.</p> <p>Major areas of responsibility include:</p> <ul> <li>Professional Customer Service (20% of position/ 4 hours per week) </li></ul> <p>Demonstrate a courteous, helpful, and positive attitude to ensure customer satisfaction. Greet and welcome patrons and professionally answer, screen, and forward incoming calls. Exhibits polite and professional communication internal and external via phone, e-mail, and mail. Respond within 24 hours to all inquiries with accurate information.</p> <ul> <li>Operations and Administrative (60% of position/12 hours per week) </li></ul> <p>Lead or oversee administrative projects. Provides administrative support to ensure efficient operation of the Recreation Services Division. Perform operational functions such as preparing, maintaining and updating documents, spreadsheets and reports, responding to customer service inquiries, record-keeping, assisting with the recruitment of Recreation Services Temporary and Part Time employees. Utilize RecTrac to collect data and create reports. Maintains recruitment and marketing supply inventory by checking supplies to determine inventory level and anticipate needed supplies. Submit supply request for purchase.</p> <ul> <li>Other (20% of position/4 hours per week) </li></ul> <p>Manages and prioritizes multiple tasks and assignments. Helps organize and work community events. Participate in department meetings and training as required. Participates in staff meetings, in-service trainings, sessions, and workshops. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. Obtain CPR/ First Aid and defensive driving certification. Perform and complete other duties as assigned by supervisor. Performs related work as required.</p> <p>What You Should Bring</p> <p>Each member of our team is accountable for the exceptional delivery of services to the community. You will work to meet the recreation needs of our community. You will provide administrative support to the Recreation Services Division in the areas of reception, customer service, data collection and processing, program statistics, and employee recruitment. To best serve this position, you should have strong organizational skills and be proficient with computers. You must be able to communicate effectively in writing and orally with a diverse group of individuals. You should be able to provide exceptional customer service that exceeds the customer's expectations. You should also be available to work various hours, Monday through Friday, between 9:00a.m. and 6:00 p.m., and some weekend and/ or evening hours and special events.</p> <p>Recreation Leader I Key Performance objectives:</p> <ul> <li>Be Responsive, Professional, Courteous and Accountable in all interactions. </li><li>Maintain records using Microsoft programs, RecTrac software, and general filing. </li><li>Prepare, maintain and update documents, spreadsheets and reports. </li><li>Assist with the recruitment of Temporary and Part-Time employees for Recreation Services. </li><li>Attend training, meetings and workshops as assigned. </li></ul> <p>About the Department of Recreation, Parks & Cultural Activities</p> <p>The mission of Recreation, Parks & Cultural Activities is to enrich the City of Alexandria by creating meaningful experiences through public spaces, cultural activities, and programming. The department has adopted the Commonwealth Centers for High-Performance Model for Organizational Excellence, practices shared leadership, and maintains clear workplace expectations.</p> <p>Minimum & Additional Requirements</p> <p>High School Diploma and one (1) year of related experience or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. First Aid training.</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <p>High School Diploma or GED; some experience as a Recreation Leader I or equivalent; experience leading youth in recreational and cultural activities including and crafts, sports, games, music, drama, cooking, physical fitness, mindfulness, swimming and water play activities, STEAM activities, and field trips, or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.</p> <p>A background working with vulnerable youth, experience working independently and as part of a team, experience working with schools, therapeutic recreation, youth sports programs and/or other community services or programs. Strong writing and verbal skills.</p> <p>Notes</p> <p>This position requires successful completion of a criminal records background check, child abuse and child neglect screening and drug screening prior to employment.</p>
