Sensitivity and the ability to collaborate with providers and patients confidentially and positively are essential. The role of the Genetic Counselor is to work both autonomously and in coordination with medical providers in the evaluation of patients and families of high risk. Major responsibilities include delivery of high-quality genetic counseling and risk assessment, in addition to multidisciplinary medical and supportive care to patients and families.</p> <p>Salary Range: $45.20-59.61 Hourly</p> <p>Job Qualifications</p> <p>Press space or enter keys to toggle section visibility</p> <p>Required:</p> <ul> <li>Master's degree in genetic counseling from an accredited genetic counseling program. </li><li>Board eligible/certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC). </li><li>License or License-eligible from the state of California. </li><li>Knowledge of and ability to apply genetic counseling methods and techniques </li><li>Knowledge of health care systems, health insurance authorization processes, health information systems, and community resources </li><li>Ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary team. </li><li>Ability to ensure that all recommended testing that is ordered is completed and that patients have </li><li>Ability to present relevant genetic information to individuals and families from diverse cultural backgrounds in an informed, compassionate manner and to help families obtain the medical and social services they may need. </li><li>Interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, research personnel and investigators. </li><li>Ability to effectively communicate solutions and clarifications of concerns, problems and quandaries to the respective parties involved. </li><li>Knowledge of patient resource information (i.e. counseling, physician referrals, support groups, community resources) </li><li>Effective organization skills </li><li>Effective oral and written communication skills. </li><li>Recognize ethical dilemmas and seek appropriate assistance when necessary. </li><li>Skills in operating a PC word processor and programs. </li><li>Develop skills in telemedicine </li></ul> <p>Preferred:</p> <ul> <li>One year of experience in Health care or a closely related field as determined by institution. </li></ul>
