<p>Position Description</p> <p>A professional, registered nurse who coordinates and manages the nursing skills laboratory and simulation program, provides instruction for skill lab courses, and collaborates with the Department of Nursing faculty to promote student learning during all semesters of the nursing program.</p> <p>Alignment with Theological Positions</p> <p>Alignment with Theological Positions: The person who fills this position must be someone who personally agrees with Biola's Articles of Faith and Statement of Biblical Principles and who is supportive of the positions taken by Biola as contained in its Eschatology Teaching Position. As such, this person may not speak against or act in a manner inconsistent with these positions during the course of their employment at Biola.</p> <p>Department</p> <p>Department of Nursing in the School of Science, Technology and Health</p> <p>Supervisor</p> <p>This position reports to the Director of Nursing.</p> <p>Educational Requirements</p> <p>Bachelor of Science in Nursing required, MSN preferred.</p> <p>Active California RN licensure and CPR healthcare provider card through American Heart Association renewed biennially. ACLS and PALS certifications preferred.</p> <p>Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) Medical/Surgical approved.</p> <p>Work Requirements</p> <p>Exempt- Salaried, full-time - 40 hours/week, 11 months per year (Aug - June)</p> <p>This position requires personal attendance at Biola's campus in La Mirada, California</p> <p>Weekly schedule is variable with some flexibility.</p> <p>Essential Duties</p> <p>Supports and implements the mission, goals, and policies of Biola University and the Department of Nursing.</p> <p>Displays theoretical and clinical expertise to students by maintaining up-to-date evidence-based practice and awareness of policies/procedures at local hospitals.</p> <p>Maintains currency of expertise in relation to trends and innovations in nursing practice, nursing education, and nursing simulation.</p> <p>Collaborates with Nursing faculty in the development, integration, and implementation of simulation curriculum.</p> <p>Orients new faculty to the INASCL standards for simulation education, elements of the BUDON simulation program and equipment, and provides ongoing training on the use of simulation equipment and materials</p> <p>Regularly reviews current simulation scenarios and skills procedures for relevance and accuracy as related to actual professional practice.</p> <p>Assists faculty with selecting, creating, and implementing simulation and skills experiences that introduce or reinforce concepts that contribute to student achievement of program goals</p> <p>Meets with faculty and student peer leaders before and after simulation and skills lab experiences to prepare and debrief as needed</p> <p>Queries faculty and students for suggestions of new equipment and supplies to enhance student learning and outcomes</p> <p>Provides connections between theory and clinical content in skills lab learning opportunities.</p> <p>Promotes student learning through maintenance of skills lab equipment, space, and technology.</p> <p>Conducts ongoing maintenance of all simulation equipment</p> <p>Monitors all biomedical products and manikins and offers recommendations to the director regarding updates, repairs, and replacements as needed.</p> <p>Maintains current knowledge of trends in simulation and makes recommendations for the purchase of new equipment/resources to enhance the simulation program</p> <p>Maintains oversight of the general appearance of the simulation/skills spaces, including stocking of supplies and equipment cleaning</p> <p>Communicates with the University Information Technology team for IT support in skills lab spaces</p> <p>Participates in annual Safety walk-through evaluations and follows up on any identified deficiencies.</p> <p>Maintains oversight of the biohazard waste disposal process</p> <p>Attends monthly Health, Safety, & Operations meetings and contributes Nursing Lab updates</p> <p>Creates and maintains the schedule for all activities within Lim and Soubirou Labs</p> <p>Coordinates scheduling and student peer leader staffing of skills lab teaching and simulation activities</p> <p>Staffs all Open Skills lab days throughout the semester, providing at least 10 hours per week available.</p> <p>Coordinates with other departments (e.g. Communication Sciences & Disorders, Occupational Therapy) for shared use of space and equipment as needed</p> <p>Coordinates use of the skills lab spaces for student filming or university media requests</p> <p>Collaborates with faculty in the development and implementation of the senior simulation event at the end of each semester including helping staff this event.</p> <p>Maintains regular communication with faculty, clinical supervisors, and students in support of a positive and productive student experience</p> <p>Provides updates at full faculty and semester-specific faculty meetings</p> <p>Communicates with relevant faculty regarding specific student learning needs</p> <p>Communicates with clinical supervisors regarding individual or global clinical skill remediation</p> <p>Stewards the skills and simulation lab supply budget</p> <p>Purchases necessary supplies, equipment, and service warranties. Tracks expenditures in appropriate applications and manages spending within budget.</p> <p>Communicates with medical and supply vendor representatives to negotiate favorable pricing and support</p> <p>Coordinates with the Nursing Director, Dean's Office, prior to and throughout the procurement process</p> <p>Maintains inventory and conducts routine inventory updates</p> <p>Maintains department equipment value and lifecycle spreadsheet annually and as needed</p> <p>Organizes and conducts N95 mask fit testing for the nursing program</p> <p>Maintains student records of N95 mask testing schedule and mask sizes</p> <p>Communicates renewal notices to students</p> <p>Required Skills/Qualifications</p> <p>Minimum one-year full-time equivalent acute patient care experience within the previous three years, medical/surgical or critical care preferred.</p> <p>Previous healthcare simulation experience preferred.</p> <p>CHSE certification preferred o a willingness to secure within the first three years of hire.</p> <p>Proficiency in Google Suite/ Microsoft Office applications, Internet and database applications.</p> <p>Maintains currency in nursing knowledge and skills.</p> <p>Strong written and verbal communication skills.</p> <p>Self-motivated and ability to work effectively in a team environment.</p> <p>Demonstrated problem-solving and organization skills.</p>
