<p>The Civil Engineer P.E. performs professional and technical engineering work in the complex design, installation, management, and evaluation of public streets, drainage systems, traffic systems, and utility systems within the City. Primary responsibilities include reviewing plans, specifications, and technical reports for conformance to Broomfield's Standards and Specifications for construction of public infrastructure; coordinating capital improvements projects; and managing design and construction projects. Provide holistic services to the public by seeking ways to integrate programs or services provided by other departments, divisions and agencies. Examples of duties are not intended to be all-inclusive or restrictive.)</p> <ul> <li> <p>Reviews civil engineering plans, specifications, and technical reports for conformance with Broomfield's Standards and Specifications, federal and state regulations, and applicable infrastructure master plans. </p> </li><li> <p>Coordinates civil engineering plan reviews and permitting tasks with outside divisions, departments, and agencies, for new developments, construction in the public right-of-way, and capital improvement projects. Monitors the progress of projects so the goals may be obtained within the established timeframe. </p> </li><li> <p>Researches information and responds to questions from customers including other staff members, contractors, developers, residents and other members of the public.</p> </li><li> <p>May conduct studies, analyses, and research on a wide variety of topics. May take a lead role in coordinating capital improvement projects.</p> </li><li> <p>Identifies and recommends changes or improvements in departmental operations to ensure assigned functions are efficient and cost effective. Works with the team to avoid duplication of service and to ensure that customer expectations are recognized and resolved thereby maximizing customer satisfaction. Advises manager of potential problems or concerns.</p> </li><li> <p>Represents the City at project meetings, workshops, administrative hearings, City Council meetings and other governmental agency meetings as necessary. </p> </li></ul> <p>Education - Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or a closely related field.</p> <p>Experience - Four years of progressively responsible professional experience in the design, installation, management, and construction of civil engineering projects as appropriate to the position.</p> <p>OR</p> <p>Years of related experience may be substituted for required education, however education cannot be substituted for the necessary work experience. Candidates must meet the minimum required years of work experience</p> <p>NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: - Current registration as a Professional Engineer with the Colorado State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and safe driving record for continued employment. New hires must, as a condition of employment, pass the following pre-offer and post-offer/hire processes: oral board, reference checks, background checks including local police check and sex offender registry, and driving check through DMV.</p> <p>The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job. The noise level in the environment is moderate. Some of the employee's time is spent at project sites with subsequent exposure to outdoor weather conditions and to a wide variety of potential safety hazards common to project sites; e.g., heavy machinery, road traffic, heavy materials, etc. Travel by pickup/automobile is required to reach project sites. Work is generally scheduled Monday through Friday with some evening and weekend hours. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to walk, talk or hear. Physical demands are described as sedentary (exert up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time). Tasks may require sitting at a computer for several hours. Data entry and other tasks may require sitting at a computer for several hours. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus, and peripheral vision.
