<p>Basic Function and Responsibility:</p> <p>The Chemistry and Technology Lab Supervisor assists lab faculty to ensure that Chemistry, Robotics, and Physics/Engineering class and research laboratories are set up for optimal performance. The position is responsible for completing tasks to maintain compliance with safety protocols related to safe handling and disposal of chemicals and for maintaining proper inventory of supplies.</p> <p>Essential Duties:</p> <ol> <li>Supervisory? Recruit, hire, train, and supervise student laboratory workers in the Chemistry,Robotics, and Physics/Engineering programs? Supervise laboratory work of student personnel in Chemistry, Robotics, andPhysics/Engineering stockroom: glassware care, organize and monitor supplyinventory? Maintain a high level of order and cleanliness in the stockrooms and classroomlaboratories.? Supervise solution preparation for teaching labs? Supervise the setup of Chemistry, Robotics, and Physics/Engineering teachinglabs? Supervise lab coat and goggles distribution and collection? Ensure lab coats are washed and goggles are disinfected at the end of eachsemester? Write Standard Operating Procedures for lab duties? Meet with the Director of Lab Operations weekly2. Safety Compliance? Work together with faculty to ensure students wear appropriate PersonalProtective Equipment as appropriate to the task.? Ensure that student workers are receiving the appropriate after-hire and yearlysafety training.? Ensure that chemicals and reagents are properly inventoried and stored toappropriate standards.? Keep chemical storage cabinets, physics/engineering/robotics lab items onshelves organized and uncluttered? Ensure Hazardous Waste/Universal Electronic waste is disposed of safely? Ensure chemicals and solutions have GHS-compliant labels? Ensure laboratory safety is maintained according to BIOLA's Chemical HygienePlan as directed by the Director of Lab Operations.3. Equipment? Maintain, troubleshoot, and if possible, repair department laboratory equipment;photoelectric effect, Geiger counters, Pasco carts, 3D printers, 2D Collisionapparatus, gas chromatographs, NMRs, etc...? Schedule regular maintenance on equipment with service agreements? Work with IT for lab computers' software installation? Recycle old computers and electronics? Maintain lab laptop and equipment inventory? Maintain student laptop loan inventory4. Facilitate Class and Research Laboratory OperationsWork with lab assistants to:? Ensure that laboratory supplies are set up for weekly laboratory exercises? Ensure that laboratories are cleaned up at the end of the week? Ensure that all lab coats are washed at the end of the semester and redistributed atthe beginning of the semester? Work with faculty to prepare supplies for faculty-student research projects? Maintain lab drawer key inventory and have new keys made as needed5. Purchasing? Process program lab, research, and club orders from the Quartzy Platform? Track/Deliver chemicals, gases, and lab orders? Update Quartzy purchasing system with arrived orders? Notify faculty of arrived orders? Enter chemicals into ChemInventory Platform? Upload SDS of ordered chemicals to Vector Solutions SDS Platform? Supervise student workers/lab technicians with ordering related tasks mentionedabove6. Departmental Support? Complete special projects as needed, as directed by the Director of LabOperations? Serve as a member of the program's support staff team by attending meetings asneeded and providing general program support?
