<p>Job Description:</p> <p>Job Title: Head Cheerleading Coach</p> <p>Location: Ellington High School</p> <p>Seasons: Fall and Winter</p> <p>Reports To: Director of Athletics and Wellness / School Administration</p> <p>Position Summary:</p> <p>Ellington High School is seeking a Head Cheerleading Coach to lead and oversee its cheerleading program during the fall and winter athletic seasons. The head coach will be responsible for building a positive, disciplined, and student-centered program that promotes school spirit, teamwork, leadership, sportsmanship, and skill development. The successful candidate will foster a safe and inclusive environment while supporting student-athletes both on the sidelines and in their overall growth as students and leaders.</p> <p>Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Plan, organize, and supervise all practices, performances, games, and team activities during the fall and winter seasons </li><li>Teach and develop cheerleading fundamentals, sideline responsibilities, game-day expectations, and appropriate routines </li><li>Promote a positive team culture built on accountability, respect, commitment, and sportsmanship </li><li>Ensure the safety and well-being of all student-athletes, including proper progression of skills and attention to safe practice standards </li><li>Monitor student-athlete academic, behavioral, and athletic progress </li><li>Communicate effectively with student-athletes, families, school staff, and athletic administration </li><li>Supervise assistant coaches and coordinate responsibilities within the program as needed </li><li>Support school spirit and represent Ellington High School in a positive and professional manner </li><li>Manage uniforms, equipment, and program inventory </li><li>Ensure compliance with all CIAC, conference, school, and district policies and expectations </li><li>Attend required meetings, rules clinics, and professional development opportunities </li><li>Assist with offseason planning, program development, and building continuity between seasons </li></ul> <p>Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Previous cheerleading coaching experience preferred, with head coaching experience strongly preferred </li><li>Strong knowledge of cheerleading fundamentals, game-day leadership, and team development </li><li>Understanding of appropriate safety expectations and skill progression in cheerleading </li><li>Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with student-athletes and families </li><li>Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills </li><li>Commitment to educational athletics and the values of interscholastic sports </li><li>Must meet all district, CIAC, and state coaching certification requirements, including CPR/First Aid and concussion training </li></ul> <p>Preferred Characteristics:</p> <ul> <li>Ability to create a positive, energetic, and disciplined team environment </li><li>Strong commitment to school pride, student leadership, and sportsmanship </li><li>Ability to work collaboratively with school staff, athletic administration, and other coaches </li><li>Commitment to the growth and long-term success of the Ellington High School cheerleading program </li></ul> <p>Terms of Employment:</p> <ul> <li>Seasonal stipend position covering both fall and winter seasons, in accordance with district agreement </li><li>Employment is contingent upon successful completion of all required certifications, background checks, and board approval where applicable </li></ul>
