<p>The Portage County Highway department is hiring a full-time Mechanic to join their team!</p> <p>Minimum pay is $29.57 / hr (there is an opportunity for Mechanic II wage with ASE Certification)</p> <p>Mechanic I range $29.57 - $35.72 / hr</p> <p>Mechanic II range $31.64 - $38.22 / hr</p> <p>What are the primary job duties?</p> <ul> <li>Perform major diesel engine repair and overhauls on a variety of highway related equipment. </li><li>Perform mechanical maintenance, upkeep, repair, and overhaul on all related highway equipment. Work to include repair of electrical systems, hydraulic systems, transmissions, differential and other motor train related repairs. </li><li>Repair and maintenance on chassis and bodies of vehicles and highway construction equipment. </li><li>Perform mechanical responsibilities in the highway shop, on the road, and in the field. </li><li>Provide proper winter maintenance such as plowing snow, salting and sanding of hazardous winter conditions when needed. </li><li>Must be available to be called to work seven days a week, twenty-four hours a day to handle emergency work conditions to provide safe and economic conditions. </li></ul> <p>What are the minimum requirements?</p> <ul> <li>High school diploma or its equivalent required. Associate in diesel mechanics preferred. </li><li>Minimum of 3 years experience in the commercial, industrial, or private mechanic shop. Experience in diesel and heavy construction equipment preferred. </li><li>Commercial driver's license (CDL) or ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire and safe driving record.
