Care is provided in collaboration with anesthesia, surgeons and other staff members. Under the supervision of the OR RN, Supervisor/Manager/Director, the Surgical Technologist:</p> <ul> <li>Integrates physiologic, medical, surgical, and anesthetic information to give appropriate patient care. </li><li>Uses the principles of asepsis to assist the surgeon in the maintenance of the sterile field, providing for optimal patient care in the OR </li><li>Effectively functions in the sterile environment, demonstrating knowledge and ability in performing the role of first scrub on all assigned surgical cases. </li><li>Cares for surgical patients of all ages and all levels of acuity. </li></ul> <p>Experience: Previous experience preferred. Will consider LPN with previous scrub experience as well</p> <p>Licenses/Certificates: Certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist with the AST is required. BLS required.</p> <p>Physical Requirements:</p> <p>Physical requirements are primarily related to the essential functions of any job. In order to perform the essential functions of this position, you must be able to stand for periods up to twelve hours, walk, sit, use hands, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, talk, hear and smell.</p> <p>Must be able to lift 50 pounds 50% of the time and up to 100 pounds 50% of the time in order to move anesthetized patients; must possess the fine manual dexterity skills to assist with operative procedures; and close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less), peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen move up/down or left/right), dept perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances), distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet away) and ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into focus).</p> <p>Mental Requirements:</p> <p>Must possess the ability to read and interpret business or safety manuals, clinical, or technical procedures or regulations. Ability to write reports, correspondence and/or manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, patients, families, other employees and medical staff.</p> <p>Must possess the ability to perform basic math functions (add, subtract, multiply and divide) using numbers and units of money.</p> <p>Listeners can understand verbal communication.</p> <p>Ability to define problems, collects data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Graduation from an accredited school of surgical technology or surgical technology military program. Certified Surgical Technologist credential administered by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting or Educational and clinical training with documentation for surgical assisting and/or proof of completion of Military training as an Operating Room Specialist (68-D) plus 3 years of experience in the operating room environment. Case history must be provided by the potential employee. New graduates must obtain certification within 90 days of graduation. Two years' experience within the operating room setting preferred. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required.</p> <p>Requirements for LPN:</p> <p>Graduate from an accredited Practical Nurse program. Licensed as an LPN within the state of South Carolina or a compact state.
