<p>Are you a current high school student looking for an interesting and rewarding summer job? This internship with our water quality and treatment team could be great for you if you like science! We will give you an introduction to the professional world of water and you can earn money while you're learning and helping out in practical ways around the department. </p> <ul> <li>The specific work days and work times are flexible. </li><li>We anticipate the internship to start in June and end in July or August based on your availability. </li><li>The person hired will work 2 or 3 days each week, 5-8 hours each day depending on your availability. </li><li>Pay Rate: $15.65- $20.66/hr DOE </li><li>Applications are required so we can interview you so apply today! </li></ul> <p>Under immediate supervision, performs a variety of tasks within their assigned work area.</p> <p>Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from Intern I or, when filled from the outside, require previous and directly related experience.</p> <p> </p> <p>Intern I:</p> <p>This is the entry-level class in the Intern series. Incumbents entering this class have limited or no related work experience.</p> <p>(Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills and other characteristics. The list of tasks is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY, and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by positions in this class.)</p> <p>Provides staff support related to projects within their work area.</p> <p>Completes assigned research, filing, typing or other projects in a timely manner and with required documentation.</p> <p>Provides back-up support for lunch breaks, vacations and illnesses within the department.</p> <p>Answers phone and routes incoming calls to appropriate person.</p> <p>Responds to customer inquires relating to their assigned area.</p> <p>Gathers data and related information for projects.</p> <p>Performs data analysis and reporting on assigned projects.</p> <p>Enters data into database and produces reports in various formats for review.</p> <p>Operates office equipment such as copy machines, calculators and computer software to produce end reports and copies.</p> <p>Distributes documents to appropriate sources.</p> <p>Sorts and delivers mail to individual employees.</p> <p>May be required to operate other office equipment such as binders, folding machines or color copiers.</p> <p>Performs other duties as assigned.</p> <p>Education/Experience:</p> <p>No experience necessary.</p> <p> </p> <p>Licensing/Certification Requirements:</p> <p>May need the ability to travel to various locations in a timely manner as the job requires.</p> <p>Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:</p> <p>Knowledge of the policies, procedures and goals of the city of Thornton and the department.</p> <p>Knowledge and experience in the use of office equipment.</p> <p>Knowledge of data processing procedures.</p> <p>Knowledge of the principles and practices of conducting research.</p> <p>Skill in the use of standard office software.</p> <p>Skill in the use of Windows, Word and Excel programs.</p> <p>Skill in the use of the internet and on-line research.</p> <p>Ability to understand and interpret various forms of information.</p> <p>Ability to use conduct calculations and data manipulation for report purposes.</p> <p>Ability to draft documents.</p> <p>Ability to read, interpret and clearly explain policies to a variety of constituents.</p> <p>Ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion.</p> <p>Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, elected officials, boards and commissions, other jurisdictions and members of the general public.</p> <p>Ability to listen well and communicate effectively orally and in writing with various audiences.</p> <p>Physical and Mental Requirements:</p> <p>While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, kneel, squat, stoop, climb, crawl, repeatedly twist the upper body, talk, hear, see, demonstrate manual dexterity and perform light lifting. The employee is required to sit and perform duties requiring the use of repetitive motions for prolonged periods and to exercise visual concentration for extended periods. The employee must demonstrate the ability to remain calm during routine and stressful conditions.</p> <p>Examinations may include but are not limited to application screening beyond minimum qualifications; written, oral, practical exercise or any combination thereof or other job related assessment deemed appropriate by Human Resources.</p> <p>Your application will be used as a screening tool.
