The University's 2,600 staff help create an annual economic impact for the Piedmont Triad region in excess of $1B.</p> <p>Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit</p> <p>Facilities Operations has the responsibility of providing a wide range of services to all administrative departments, student programs, and all academic schools and departments. Services include all aspects of corrective and preventive maintenance, operations, grounds maintenance, housekeeping, utility infrastructure maintenance and operations, business operations, safety, regulatory compliance, project management, and renovations. These duties are conducted for a campus consisting of over 100 buildings totaling 6 million gross square feet on over 275 acres.</p> <p>The Office of Waste Reduction and Recycling (OWRR) is responsible for providing comprehensive composting, sanitation, and recycling services to the University, promoting source reduction of solid waste among its work units, encouraging the procurement of recycled content products, recording amounts and types of University waste disposed of and recycled, and maintaining an up-to-date University solid waste management plan. The OWRR full-time staff consists of OWRR supervisor and 5 vehicle/equipment operators.</p> <p>Position Summary</p> <p>The Recycle Truck Driver position completes the sanitation and recycling route, assisting the crew in correcting dumpster overflow issues, providing customer service, operating trash/recycling trucks and other fleet vehicles, performing basic maintenance, practicing safe working habits, and assisting in special events with trash/recycling assistance.</p> <p>This position is mandatory as defined in the Adverse Weather and Emergency Event Policy.</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <p>DEMONSTRATED POSSESSION OF THE COMPETENCIES NECESSARY TO PERFORM THE WORK. Removes items from the dumpster that are banned from NC Landfills. </li><li>Special event and work order request assistance- Sets up and collects special event waste collection containers as needed. Assess need for additional containers and delivers in a timely manner, removes full containers and empties them independently. </li></ul> <p>Key Responsibility</p> <p>Vehicle and Equipment Operation, Inspection, and Maintenance</p> <p>Essential Tasks</p> <ul> <li>Performs daily DOT vehicle inspections. Performs immediate maintenance needs such as adding fluids or adjusting tire pressure. Immediately reports to supervisor any safety concerns, mechanical problems, need for repairs, parts, or further attention. </li><li>Transports vehicles and equipment to and from repair shops as needed. </li><li>Inspects and maintains container locations for cleanliness and correct labels. During the summer months, containers should be power-washed as needed. Reports any deficiencies or problems to the supervisor. Repairs broken containers as directed by the supervisor. </li><li>Completes monthly PM service that includes basic lubrication of compactor grease fittings. </li><li>Always keeps the work area and vehicles clean and organized. Empties truck contents every week and washes out compactor body in wash bay. </li><li>Reports the need for repairs, parts, or supplies to the supervisor. </li></ul> <p>Key Responsibility</p> <p>Surveys and prepares trash/recycle collection areas for crew or contractor service</p> <p>Essential Tasks</p> <ul> <li>Prioritizes tasks to be completed after daily inspections of key waste collection areas at the beginning of the shift. </li><li>Ready chute containers for contractor pickup. </li><li>Replace broken casters on chute containers as needed. </li><li>Operates small trucks and equipment necessary to complete work assignments. </li><li>Serve as primary point of contact for campus compactors and trash chutes - keep compactors and chutes operational, clean, and ready for contractor service. Troubleshoot problems with compactors and chutes to prevent and fix operational issues.
