With the increasing frequency of obesity and diabetes, especially in Georgia, cardiovascular disease is reaching epidemic proportions. The Vascular Biology Center at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University knows the demand is high for new and better treatments. Our internationally recognized team of research experts have one goal - to make breakthroughs in the prevention and treatment of disease so that we all may live longer, healthier lives.</p> <p>Job Summary</p> <p>The major focus of research is identifying mechanisms of cardiometabolic diseases focusing on the interaction between endothelial cells and adipocytes. The primary roles will involve isolating, culturing, and characterizing endothelial cells and stem cells derived from discarded human blood vessels and adipose tissue or animal tissues. The position will also assist with all the experiments conducted with these cells including maintaining the cell line, treating the cells, conducting molecular studies and helping with interpretation of study results.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <p>Responsibilities to include, but are not limited to:</p> <p>Cell culture, mouse tissue collection, vascular studies.</p> <p>Molecular biology assays of cultured cells and tissue: Western blot, qRT-PCR.</p> <p>Data analysis and record keeping.</p> <p>Perform all other job-related duties as assigned.</p> <p>Required Qualifications</p> <p>Master's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology, or other natural, life, health care, or materials science related to the research area to which the position is assigned and experience in research, basic science, or clinical laboratory research.</p> <p>OR</p> <p>Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology, or other natural, life, health care, or materials science and a minimum of three years of research and/or clinical experience.</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <p>Cell culture, Cell Lines, Westerns</p> <p>Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities</p> <p>KNOWLEDGE</p> <p>Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.</p> <p>SKILLS</p> <p>Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.</p> <p>Attention to detail, strong work ethic and desire to learn.</p> <p>ABILITIES</p> <p>Ability to maintain confidentiality.</p> <p>Must be highly motivated.</p> <p>Willingness and ability to work with research animals.</p> <p>Ability to use sound judgment and work independently.</p> <p>Shift/Salary/Benefits</p> <p>This position is a Part-time 20 hours per week (.50 FTE) position.</p> <p>Shift: Days; Monday - Friday</p> <p>Salary: $21.83-$26.92 per hour.</p> <p>Pay Band: B8</p> <p>Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.</p> <p>This position is (fully/partially) funded through external sources.
