<p>DIVISION: Operations</p> <p>DEPARTMENT: Southborough</p> <p>UNION/GRADE: Unit 2/Grade 17</p> <p>TO VIEW OUR BENEFITS PLEASE CLICK ON THE LINK! - https://www.mwra.com/02org/html/benefits.htm</p> <p>BASIC PURPOSE:</p> <p>Inspects, troubleshoots, maintains, and installs mechanical, electrical, electro-mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment for the repair and maintenance of all vehicles and mobile equipment.</p> <p>SUPERVISION RECEIVED:</p> <p>Works under the general supervision of the Unit Supervisor.</p> <p>SUPERVISION EXERCISED:</p> <p>None.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Performs preventive, emergency, and corrective maintenance on all vehicle motors, transmissions, and auxiliary support systems including hybrid technology, electric vehicles, and specialty equipment. </li><li>Performs similar maintenance functions on mobile equipment such as lawn mowers, weed wackers, air compressors, heavy equipment, specialized motor driven equipment, steam cleaners, wreckers, prime mover for electrical generator, street sweepers, wood chippers, porta and versa lifts and other treatment plant equipment. </li><li>Inspects and troubleshoots vehicle related systems, equipment, and support systems using testing devices including onboard diagnostic tools as well as online troubleshooting software packages. </li><li>Utilizes the latest technology to troubleshoot and maintain assigned equipment. </li><li>Coordinates the retrieval of broken down vehicles and performs field services to assigned vehicles. </li><li>Plans, lays out work, selects appropriate parts and materials, and obtains necessary tools and machines for the job as specified by the work order. </li><li>Operates a variety of motor vehicles and equipment (including front-end loaders, backhoes, mobile cranes, truck tractors, etc.) to diagnose and check work. </li><li>Performs work in a safe and professional manner. </li><li>Assists in the development of cost estimates for repairs, rebuilding and/or reconstruction of equipment. </li><li>Inspects vehicles and mobile equipment on a scheduled basis to ensure proper maintenance of each vehicle. </li><li>Reports and documents results of inspections and work performed. </li><li>May inspect and assist with the removal of snow and ice from roadways, walkways, buildings, and structures as necessary. </li><li>Assists in damage assessment reports and determines correct repair plan. </li><li>Trains peers and subordinates as requested. </li></ul> <p>SECONDARY DUTIES:</p> <ul> <li>Performs clean up and housekeeping in work area for tools, and equipment. </li><li>Assists supervisors and crews with the proper selection of replacement equipment for the particular job task taking into consideration hybrid and electric technology. </li><li>Performs other related duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <p>Education and Experience:</p> <ul> <li>Basic reading, writing, mathematical, scientific and oral communication skills as normally acquired through a high school education or the equivalent and one year of specialized technical or vocational education in Auto Mechanics; and </li><li>At least four (4) years of related experience; or </li><li>Any equivalent combination of education/training and/or experience. </li></ul> <p>Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:</p> <ul> <li>Working knowledge of the principles and theory of vehicle related combustion engines, drives, transmissions, controls and support systems, including diesel engines and related equipment, and the tools, instruments and methods for their repair and maintenance. </li><li>Ability to read, interpret, and, set up and work from wiring diagrams, sketches, blueprints and vendor manuals to safety assemble, erect, troubleshoot, install and repair components, parts or assemblies as required for the repair and maintenance of a wide variety of vehicles and related equipment. </li><li>Working knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety practices common to the trade, to include satisfactory completion of MWRA safety training in safe techniques for the use of hoists, rigging, and material handling equipment. </li><li>Familiar with welding techniques common to the trade. </li><li>Ability to follow written and oral instructions. </li><li>Ability to stay current with technology driven diagnostic tools. </li></ul> <p>SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:</p> <p>A valid Massachusetts Commercial Driver's License Class B is required. A Class "A" Driver's License is preferred.</p> <p>A valid Massachusetts Office of Public Safety and Inspections Hoisting Engineers license with endorsement 1B (Equipment with telescoping booms with or without wire ropes), 2A (Crawler and rubber-tired excavators, backhoes and loaders, and equipment), 4G (Specialty Side Boom Mower) to be obtained within twelve months.</p> <p>TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:</p> <p>Hand tools, telephone, and personal computer including word processing and other software, copy and fax machine.</p> <p>PHYSICAL DEMANDS:</p> <p>The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.</p> <p>WORK ENVIRONMENT:</p> <p>The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.</p> <p>While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in an office environment. The employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibration. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.
