<p>Provisional Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor JobID: 1772</p> <p>Position Type:</p> <p>Classified Staff/VOC REHAB COUNS</p> <p>Date Posted:</p> <p>3/27/2026</p> <p>Location:</p> <p>Multiple Locations</p> <p>Date Available:</p> <p>ASAP</p> <p>Closing Date:</p> <p>04/15/2026</p> <p>Additional Information: Show/Hide</p> <p>Applicants - Please note that it is required that you have either taken the competitive Nassau County Civil Service exam and are on the list, or have the qualifications to become a provisional hire in the title and take the exam when announced by Nassau County Civil Service.</p> <p>GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:</p> <p>Researches, develops, and implements programs for the vocational rehabilitation of students with physical and/or mental disabilities; performs related duties as required.</p> <p>DESCRIPTION:</p> <p>The Human Resources Department of the Nassau BOCES is currently seeking a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:</p> <ul> <li>Interviews and evaluates handicapped students to identify areas requiring counseling and additional support. </li><li>Determines suitable occupational opportunities consistent with student's desires, aptitude, and physical/mental limitations. </li><li>Prepares case records and reports. </li><li>Provides counseling services designed to encourage and support adult students with barriers to employment. </li><li>Confers and works with professional personnel, professional organizations, and adult student's family members where deemed appropriate. </li><li>May promote and develop job openings to facilitate adult student's ability to gain employment. </li><li>Visit sites to counsel students at places of employment. </li></ul> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <p>Training and Experience</p> <ul> <li>Master's Degree from a regionally accredited New York State registered college or university in rehabilitation counseling, including a supervised internship. </li></ul> <p>Or</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university and Two years of satisfactory experience in the field of vocational counseling or vocational rehabilitation. </li></ul> <p>NOTE: Graduate credit toward the master's degree in Rehabilitation Counseling may be substituted for the above-described experience in increments of 12 credits equaling 6 months' experience, up to a maximum of 18 months' substitution.</p> <p>Non-Discrimination Statement</p> <p>The Nassau BOCES offers employment and educational opportunities without regard to age, color, creed, disability, familial status, gender, gender expression, gender identity, marital status, military/veteran status, national origin, predisposing genetic characteristics, race, religion (including religious practice and/or expression), sex (including pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical condition), sexual orientation or victim of domestic violence status.
