<p>Introduction</p> <p>The Maryland State Retirement Agency is the administrator of the Maryland State Retirement and Pension System ("System"). The System is a defined benefit retirement system covering governmental employees within the State of Maryland. The System is composed of twelve (12) separate retirement and pension systems with over 50 different rule sets. The System has over 397,000 participants (customers), including 192,000 members who are actively employed and participating in the System, 165,000 payees who receive a monthly payment from the System, and 40,000 vested members who are no longer actively employed but have earned a benefit that will become payable at a future date.\n\n\nThe agency is seeking to fill an Administrative Officer I position for the Disability Team in the Special Projects Unit.?\n\n\nThis position is not telework eligible.?\n</p> <p>GRADE</p> <p>13\n</p> <p>LOCATION OF POSITION</p> <p>Maryland State Retirement Agency\n120 East Baltimore Street\nBaltimore, Maryland 21202\n</p> <p>POSITION DUTIES</p> <p>The Maryland State Retirement Agency is seeking an Administrative Officer for the Disability Unit. This role is responsible for notifying all claimants of the decision made by the Medical Board and Board of Trustees through all multiple phases of the claim. This position supports the Medical Board Secretary by preparing incoming disability claims for review by the Medical Board, and is also responsible for preparing and organizing claims files for independent medical evaluations.\n\n\nThe chosen candidate must have strong organizational skills as well as excellent attention to detail, excellent communication and customer service skills. The ideal candidate would have or develop an understanding of medical terminology as well as the laws and regulations that apply to the processing of disability claims. To be successful, the chosen candidate must be motivated and dedicated to producing results and be committed to providing the best service possible to your teammates and to participants of the System.??\n\n\nPosition duties include but are not limited to:??\n\n\n\n\n Create and mail decision letters to all claimants regarding the determination on their claim by the Medical Board and Board of Trustees.??\n Track and mail disability benefit estimates for all claimants.?\n Monitor and review incoming mail to determine appropriate actions.\n Determine if the submitted documents are sufficient to open a claim.?\n Correspond with members / attorneys and employers regarding additional information that is needed to open a claim and/or continue processing of a claim.?\n Organize and review medical records to determine sufficiency for review by the Agency's Medical Board doctors. Scheduling claims to be reviewed by the Medical Board.?\n Prepare claims for review by Independent Medical Doctors.?\n Create and mail file closure letters.?\n Maintain organization of the file room.\n \n Other duties as assigned.\n\n\n</p> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>Education:?? Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.\n\n\nExperience:?One year of administrative staff or professional work.?\n\n\nNotes:?\n\n\n1. Candidates may substitute 30?college credit hours from an accredited college or university for?the required experience.\n?\n2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work that included?regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative plans, policies, rules or regulations or analysis of operational programs or procedures with recommendations for improvement on a year-for-year basis for the required?experience.\n\n</p> <p>DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.\n\n\n\n\n Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or University.?\n One (1) year of experience in the medical or legal fields evaluating workers' compensation, personal injury claims, insurance, or medical malpractice claims.\n One (1) year of experience using Microsoft Office products to include Outlook, Word, and Excel.\n\n\n</p> <p>LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS</p> <p>Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle.
