<p>Description</p> <p>The Business License Auditor is responsible for conducting audits and income verification reviews of business license accounts to ensure compliance with local and state regulations. This role involves examining financial records, identifying discrepancies, and ensuring businesses adhere to licensing requirements. The auditor will also provide recommendations for improving compliance and efficiency.</p> <p>The work is considered sedentary and involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a recurring basis or routine keyboard operations. The work requires the ability to conduct audits in various business environments and perform the following essential job functions: fingering, hearing, mental acuity, speaking, and visual acuity.</p> <p>Work environment involves exposure to no known environmental hazards; and involves critical situations that require major decisions involving people, resources and property.</p> <p>Essential Job Functions</p> <ul> <li>Conduct detailed audits of business license accounts including Hospitality and Tourism Development fees to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations; </li><li>Review and analyze financial records, tax returns, and other relevant documents; </li><li>Identify discrepancies and irregularities in financial records and report findings; </li><li>Prepare comprehensive audit reports and documentation to support audit findings; </li><li>Communicate audit results and recommendations to business owners and management; </li><li>Assist in the development and implementation of audit policies and procedures; </li><li>Provide training and guidance to new auditors and staff; </li><li>Draft payment plans to be reviewed and signed off by the Business License Administrator to resolve any debts due. </li><li>Stay updated on changes in tax laws and regulations affecting business licenses; </li><li>Collaborate with other departments to ensure accurate and timely processing of business licenses; and </li><li>Performs other related duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>MININUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related field and three (3) years of relevant experience OR an Associate's degree with 5 (five) years of relevant experience. </li><li>Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) designation preferred </li><li>Valid South Carolina Class "D" Driver's License. </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Strong knowledge of tax laws and regulations related to business licenses; </li><li>Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills; </li><li>Strong attention to detail and accuracy; </li><li>Familiarity of auditing software and data analysis tools; </li><li>Proficiency in managing multiple audits and maintaining thorough documentation; </li><li>Ability to perform supervisory work involving policy and guidelines, solving both people- and work-related problems; </li><li>Knowledge of addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, and/or calculating ratios, rates and percentages; and </li><li>Ability to perform specialized technical or entry-level professional work requiring general understanding of operating policies and procedures and their application to problems not previously encountered; application of specialized technical or professional principles and practices or the use of a wide range of administrative methods in the solution of problems; requires normal attention with short periods of concentration for accurate results and occasional exposure to unusual pressure. </li></ul> <p>The City of Columbia is proud to offer a complete benefits package to full-time employees.
