<p>DESCRIPTION</p> <p>Employee participates in a variety of activities and operations in support of Library services, with primary focus on student academic support, research assistance, and technical services. Employee will be cross-trained in other areas of the Library to provide comprehensive support and instruction.</p> <p>DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS</p> <p>This position will work with the Associate Dean, SOAR Commons to establish and follow procedures related to student academic support and library technical services.</p> <p>SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED</p> <p>Receives direct supervision from the Associate Dean, SOAR Commons.</p> <p>EXAMPLES OF DUTIES</p> <ul> <li>Provide research and academic support to students, including one-on-one assistance and group instruction </li><li>Provide staffing at the library desk during peak hours or staff absences </li><li>Assist students with wraparound support beyond academic needs, connecting them with appropriate campus and external resources </li><li>Catalog library materials and maintain bibliographic records </li><li>Collection development activities, including evaluation and recommendation of materials </li><li>Library material procurement (books, eBooks, and databases) </li><li>Provide procurement support for Library and Instruction Specialist </li><li>Work with library archives and special collections management </li><li>InterLibrary Loan support during high-volume periods or staff absences </li><li>Support social media management and content creation for the CVCC Library </li><li>Provide support for electronic resource management </li><li>Provides cross-departmental support by providing individual technology training to students </li><li>Support departmental initiatives </li><li>Other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Experience:</p> <p>One year of library or student support experience is required, preferably in an academic environment.</p> <p>Training:</p> <p>Associate of Arts (AA) or Associate of Science (AS); other two-year degrees will be considered. Bachelor's degree preferred.</p> <p>Knowledge of:</p> <ul> <li>Library automation systems (preferred) </li><li>Academic library procedures and best practices </li><li>Student support services and resources </li><li>Research methods and information literacy principles </li></ul> <p>Ability to:</p> <ul> <li>Provide effective research and academic support to diverse student populations </li><li>Maintain excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills </li><li>Deal tactfully and courteously with college stakeholders, college staff, students, and general public </li><li>Keep considerable discretion in handling confidential information and sensitive materials Write and speak effectively </li><li>Commitment to the philosophy of this learning organization </li><li>Assume responsibilities with minimal supervision, exercise initiative, make decisions, and handle routine matters independently </li><li>Solid knowledge of PCs (desktops and laptops) and related software, including Microsoft Office Suite, Internet search engines, and email systems </li><li>Work effectively with students who may need additional academic or personal support </li></ul> <p>Additional Information:</p> <ul> <li>All advertised positions are contingent upon funding </li><li>All employees are paid by direct deposit </li></ul> <p>Environmental Conditions:</p> <ul> <li>Office environment; may periodically work irregular hours, including nights and possibly weekends. </li><li>The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; and/or extensive reading. </li></ul> <p>Physical Conditions:</p> <p>Frequent walking, standing, and sitting for prolonged periods of time.</p> <ul> <li>Frequent communications, verbal and written. </li><li>Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. </li></ul> <p>Class specifications are intended to present a descriptive list of the range of duties performed by employees in the class.
