<p>PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Teaches HVAC/R skills and knowledge full-time to students in grades 9-12. </li><li>Instructs pupils in citizenship, basic communication skills, and other general elements of the competency-based course of study common to all teachers, as specified in state law, administrative regulations, and procedures of the school district. </li><li>Develops lesson plans, maintains plan book, and organizes class time so that preparation, instruction, shop work, and clean-up activities can be accomplished within the allotted time. </li><li>Demonstrates occupational materials, equipment, tools, and processes using standard or teacher-prepared models, mock-ups, sketches, and other instructional aids in accordance with the HVAC/R competency-based task listing. </li><li>Instructs pupils in the appropriate safety precautions and the safe operation and use of tools, machinery, and equipment. </li><li>Grades and monitors student progress through the use of progress reports, report cards, and student competency lists. </li><li>Communicates with employers, parents, and school counselors on individual pupil progress. </li><li>Attends special education individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings, where the teacher's presence is required. </li><li>Provides supervision and extra help to students where needed. </li><li>Attends meetings as required by the teacher contracts. </li><li>Works with students on our outside construction projects in our sending communities. </li><li>Instructs in conjunction with the Property Maintenance Program. </li><li>Performs other duties assigned by the Superintendent-Director. </li></ul> <p>PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:This position may require long periods of standing and lifting up to 50 lbs. The teacher may also be required to operate hand tools and motor equipment and may work in confined spaces with exposure to dust, smoke, fumes, and gases.</p> <p>TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:Ten-month, school-year position (183 days). Initial salary will be established by the Superintendent-Director in accordance with the Teachers' Contract. Fringe benefits as outlined in the Teachers' Contract.</p> <p>EVALUATION:As per the Teachers' Contract.QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ol> <li> <p>Must hold the appropriate Chapter 74 teaching license from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education or be eligible to obtain such a license.</p> </li><li> <p>Requirements to obtain:</p> <ul> <li>High school diploma or the equivalent </li><li>Five years of full-time employment experience directly related to HVAC/R. </li><li>Passing score on each of the written and performance exams for HVAC/R. </li><li>Possession of a current Section EPA 608 certification at the universal level. </li><li>Achieve a passing score of either Vocational Technical Literacy Skills (VTEL) or Communication and Literacy Skills (MTEL). </li></ul> </li><li> <p>Must demonstrate the ability to work with students, staff, administrators, parents, and the public in creating an atmosphere where individuals feel welcome and respected.</p> </li><li> <p>Must be able to work as part of a team and independently.</p> </li><li> <p>Must have a valid driver's license.</p> </li><li> <p>Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.</p> </li><li> <p>Must be comfortable using computers and software.</p> </li><li> <p>Prior teaching experience preferred.</p> </li><li> <p>May have such alternatives to the above as the Superintendent-Director deems appropriate and acceptable.</p> </li></ol> <p>REPORTS TO: Director of Vocational Programs</p> <p>JOB GOAL:To develop in each pupil an awareness and understanding coupled with the basic skills and knowledge applicable to HVAC/R in business or public sector; and to instill in each pupil safe working habits, the importance of continuation of his/her education, and the assets of reliability, competence, loyalty and dependability.</p>
