<p>CONTINUOUS EXAMINATION PROGRAM FOR:</p> <p>NETWORK ENGINEER III</p> <p>APPOINTING AUTHORITY VACANCIES SALARY RANGE (per annum)</p> <p>City of Yonkers As they occur $89,257 - 151,498</p> <p>RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT WAIVED</p> <p>CLICK HERE FOR EXAM APPLICATION</p> <p>DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:</p> <p>This position is responsible for the evaluation, design, implementation, and interconnection of the City's computer network. The work includes planning, designing, and maintaining network security. An incumbent in this position is also responsible for writing code in order to solve software problems and ensure that all software is up to date. This position differs from that of Network Engineer II in that duties are more complex and require a higher level of responsibility, and the incumbent may act as a lead worker for the unit. While the ability to exercise independent judgement is a requirement, general supervision is received from administrative personnel. Does related work as required.</p> <p>TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (Illustrative only)</p> <ul> <li>Provides technical assistance and equipment repair to users on the network at multiple locations; </li><li>Assists with the development of system standards and training; </li><li>Maintains complete and current network documentation; </li><li>Monitors and maintains the performance and functioning of hardware, software, LAN and WAN Networks; </li><li>Coordinates and solves issues pertaining to user accounts, permissions, e-mail addresses, and anti-virus/spam; </li><li>Manages and maintains all wireless equipment, including all associated systems; </li><li>Implements and manages hardware and software systems which transmit information through voice, data, and video; </li><li>Works with vendors to install new applications and hardware; </li><li>Installs and sets up server operating systems; </li><li>Develops and implements procedures for the installation, use, and troubleshooting of networks, hardware, and software. </li></ul> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EITHER</p> <p>A. Possession of a regionally accredited or New York State registered four year college or university with a Bachelor's Degree which includes at least (15) credit hours in computer science courses and four (4) years of experience in the design, implementation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of computer networks; or</p> <p>B. Possession of a regionally accredited or New York State registered two year college or university with an Associate's Degree which includes at least (15) credit hours in computer science courses and six (6) years of experience as described in (A); or</p> <p>C. Graduation from high school or possession of a High School Equivalency Diploma and eight (8) years of experience as described in (A) and (B); or</p> <p>D. An equivalent combination of education/training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) through (C).</p> <p>NOTE:</p> <p>Your degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education. If your degree was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. You must pay the required evaluation fee."</p> <p>SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:</p> <p>Possession of a Class D Driver's License valid in the State of New York.</p> <p>PROMOTIONAL:</p> <p>One (1) year permanent competitive status currently holding position of Network Engineer II.</p> <p>RATED EVALUATION OF TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:</p> <p>You will complete a questionnaire that asks for specific information on your information technology education (formal degrees, IT-related training courses, certifications) and experience. You will also be asked to briefly describe a significant achievement in each of the job's areas and to provide the name and contact information for someone who can verify your information.
