<p>Job Title: Phlebotomist</p> <p>Location: Williamson Street Campus</p> <p>Department Name: Lab TRMC</p> <p>Req #: 0000204080</p> <p>Status: Hourly</p> <p>Shift: Day</p> <p>Pay Range: $21.42 - $21.42, per hour</p> <p>Pay Transparency:</p> <p>The above reflects the anticipated hourly wage range for this position if hired to work in New Jersey.</p> <p>The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.</p> <p>Job Overview:</p> <p>The Phlebotomist rotates through Inpatient, Outpatient, Adult, Pediatric, Clinic and Outreach (Physician Office / Nursing Homes) sites as scheduled. The Phlebotomist is responsible for patient identification, specimen labeling, specimen collection, infection control, customer service, team work, interpersonal skills, result sorting, faxing/xeroxing and continued education.</p> <p>Qualifications:</p> <p>Required:</p> <ul> <li>High School Diploma or equivalent </li><li>Minimum 1 to 3 years of phlebotomy experience, preferably in a hospital or clinical setting </li><li>Knowledge of proper blood collection techniques and specimen handling procedures </li><li>Familiarity with laboratory standards and compliance protocols </li></ul> <p>Preferred:</p> <ul> <li>Phlebotomy Certification </li></ul> <p>Scheduling Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Shift working, 7am-3:30pm </li><li>Work weekends as part of the standard phlebotomy rotation schedule </li><li>Per Diem (PD) </li></ul> <p>Essential Functions:</p> <ul> <li>Staff must ensure two points of identification such as full name and medical record number or date of birth before collecting specimens </li><li>Actively engage in patient identification procedures by asking the patient to verify their full name </li><li>Reinforce that accurate patient identification is the most critical aspect of blood collection </li><li>Verify that specimen labels include five required pieces of information, including full name, medical record number, date, time, and collector s initials </li><li>Ensure labeling occurs in the presence of the patient for accuracy </li><li>Investigate and correct any mislabeling incidents immediately </li><li>Utilize appropriate collection devices for each patient </li><li>Follow the correct Order of Draw to pecimen integrity </li><li>Demonstrate a strong understanding of tube requirements for different tests </li><li>Reduce hemolysis and clotting risks through proper collection techniques </li><li>Ensure prompt responses to collection requests and provide efficient capillary collection procedures </li><li>Issue correct fluid and urine containers with proper labeling </li><li>Ensure effective handwashing techniques are practiced regularly </li><li>Confirm staff adhere to proper glove disposal and sharps handling procedures </li><li>Maintain knowledge of Standard Precautions and train staff accordingly </li><li>Participate in in-services addressing infection rate variance such as blood cultures </li><li>Answer calls within three rings, providing a professional greeting and department location </li><li>Maintain a courteous and professional demeanor at all times </li><li>Avoid excessive call transfers, ensuring inquiries are directed appropriately </li><li>Promptly return calls to clients </li><li>Assist in scheduling special tests such as glucose tolerance tests </li><li>Actively contribute as a team player, demonstrating cooperation and flexibility in the workplace </li><li>Provide break and meal coverage for staff when needed </li><li>Maintain punctuality to ensure smooth shift transitions </li><li>Work additional hours when necessary to support adequate staffing levels </li><li>Assist with weekend and management coverage when required </li><li>Ensure that staff follow Standard Precautions and OSHA Bloodborne Pathogen protocols </li><li>Dispose of biohazardous and non-biohazardous waste properly </li><li>Clean spills immediately in accordance with Chemical Hygiene Plan and MSDS instructions </li><li>Use appropriate protective equipment, including gloves, masks, eyewear, and lab coats </li><li>Complete annual safety training on fire hazards, electrical safety, universal precautions, and chemical handling </li><li>Maintain good working relationships with fellow employees and hospital personnel </li><li>Answer telephone calls politely and professionally </li><li>Display a helpful and hospitable attitude toward colleagues and patients </li><li>Coordinate and oversee the distribution of patient reports to appropriate doctors and facilities </li><li>Ensure cover sheets are inserted correctly before mailing reports </li><li>Generate and fax reports upon request </li><li>Follow up to confirm successful transmissions </li><li>Scan and organize reports, requisitions, and billing requests as necessary </li><li>Complete a minimum of 12 hours of continuing education annually through seminars, professional journals, online training, and in-house meetings </li><li>Participate in self-tutoring programs and engage with new research in phlebotomy techniques </li></ul> <p>Benefits and Perks:</p> <p>At RWJBarnabas Health, our market-competitive Total Rewards package provides comprehensive benefits and resources to support our employees physical, emotional, social, and financial health.</p> <p>Choosing RWJBarnabas Health!</p> <p>RWJBarnabas Health is the premier health care destination providing patient-centered, high-quality academic medicine in a compassionate and equitable manner, while delivering a best-in-class work experience to every member of the team.
