<p>Forest Health Specialist</p> <p>ID: F71ORR6-005 Location: Portland Program: FOREST</p> <p>Wage/Hr: $70.00 Hours/Week: 5 Minimum Age: 55</p> <p>For over 25 years, National Experienced Workforce Solutions (NEW Solutions) has specialized in connecting experienced workers (ages 55+) with full-time and part-time job opportunities that support the critical missions of Federal Agencies across the United States.</p> <p>NEW Solutions connects experienced workers (ages 55+) with the U.S. Forest Service. These experienced professionals provide administrative, scientific, and technical support to the U.S. Forest Service through the Agriculture Conversation Experienced Service (ACES) Program.</p> <p>Positions listed here do not guarantee employment for any definite period. Enrollment in the Experienced Worker Programs administered by NEW Solutions is temporary. The enrollment relationship between NEW Solutions and the Enrollee is an ?at-will? relationship. This means that an Enrollee is free to terminate enrollment at any time during the enrollment period, and NEW Solutions and the Agency have the right to terminate the relationship with the Enrollee.</p> <p>PLEASE NOTE: An ?Enrollee? is not a federal employee, nor an employee of NEW Solutions. An ?Enrollee? is a participant in a grant program established through a Cooperative Agreement funded by the agency and administered by NEW Solutions.</p> <p>This opportunity applies to applicants legally eligible to work in the United States.</p> <p>Qualifications:</p> <p>Minimum of 20 year(s) of experience OR MA/MS Degree in Agriculture, natural resources, agronomy or related field of study.</p> <p>MS degree, 20+ years of professional experience in forest health and pest management Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel Duties:</p> <p>Enrollee will function as an experienced specialist and subject matter expert in the field of Forest Health specific to biotic disturbance roles in forest management practices. Duties would include providing subject matter expertise (entomology and/or pathology) and guidance in the form of specific region-wide and unit-level projects and analyses, manuscript and report reviews, reviewing management recommendations, field guidance, mentorship ,and knowledge transfer.</p> <p>Mentoring/Training in field based survey and detection: Duties would include mentoring and training of employees to expand or maintain their knowledge base of forest entomology and plant pathology as well as other FS programs/procedures/activities (50%). This includes reviewing reports, management recommendations for resource managers, and manuscripts. 50% Subject Matter Expertise and other forest health related activities: Duties would include providing subject matter expertise (forest entomology or plant pathology) for specific regional and local projects/analyses through field activities and remote office/lab work involving forest damage agent effects on large landscapes. Participate in or conduct evaluations, studies or long-term measurements. Provide forest health damage agent identification and recommendations to USFS, state, tribal, and private forest managers. 50%</p> <p>Other: Required Safety Gear: Hard hat, safety vest, eye protection, and field boots for any field based activities. Safety Gear Use: The Personal Protective Equipment listed above will be required for field work activities. Field boots must be nonskid with sufficient ankle support for the field work being performed. Physical requirements: Physical fitness to walk through uneven terrain for some field work possibilities.
