The ambulatory group consists of 12 pediatric subspecialty divisions and service lines.</p> <p>This position supports the Clinical Enterprise Triage team and provides assistive care to patients and their families. Triage incumbents facilitate the efficient delivery of patient care, support the professional role of the licensed staff, and provide support and assistance as directed by licensed staff in rendering basic healthcare to the patient. In this position, incumbents also assist with clerical functions as a multi-skilled auxiliary worker. Incumbents will support designated pediatric subspecialties, with opportunities to expand and work closely with multiple disciplines. The Triage team works from the University Pediatric Patient Access Center in downtown Salt Lake City. Incumbents must be willing and able to commute to this location.</p> <p>This position is not responsible for direct patient clinical care. Primary functions include patient care coordination in a call center, separate from clinic locations. Regular and punctual attendance is required.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <p>Essential Functions</p> <ul> <li>Triage incoming calls, support patient care coordination by engaging with patients, families, clinical teams, and other stakeholders, conducting chart reviews, and problem-solving to address patient needs efficiently. </li><li>Alert care providers to significant changes in patient conditions or other critical information. </li><li>Place outbound calls, under physician direction, to relay results, reminders, and care instructions to patients and families. </li><li>Collaborate with healthcare providers and division nurses to ensure timely and appropriate coordination of patient care. </li><li>Process medication refill requests per division-specific protocol. </li><li>Assist providers and clinical staff with patient-related paperwork such as letters of medical necessity, DMV forms, school care plans, travel reimbursement forms, etc. </li><li>Deliver patient education as directed and in line with Medical Assistant training, guidelines, care process models, and clinical guidelines. </li><li>Partner closely with other members of the medical team to provide efficient, high quality ambulatory care to patients and their families. </li><li>Ensure strict adherence to patient privacy and confidentiality standards. </li><li>Actively participate in customer service efforts and quality improvement initiatives. </li></ul> <p>Comments</p> <p>Working Conditions and Physical Demands</p> <p>Employee must be able to meet the following requirements with or without an accommodation.</p> <p>Work Environment and Level of Frequency typically required</p> <p>Nearly Continuously: Office environment.</p> <p>Physical Requirements and Level of Frequency that may be required</p> <p>Nearly Continuously: Sitting, hearing, listening, talking.</p> <p>Often: Repetitive hand motion (such as typing), walking.</p> <p>Seldom: Bending, reaching overhead.</p> <p>This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated vaccination requirements, or be approved for an exemption, prior to the first day of work. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire </li><li>Verifiable completion of one (1) of the following: </li><li>State approved EMT course. </li><li>One (1) year of Medical Assistant experience in an ambulatory care clinic or other healthcare setting. </li><li>Medical Assisting education program. </li><li>University Hospital Medical Assistant certification program. </li></ul> <p>Preferences</p> <p>Preferences</p> <ul> <li>Proficiency in computer operations, including using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.). </li><li>Ability to navigate customer electronic medical record (EMR) software. </li><li>Strong typing and data entry skills with accuracy and speed. </li><li>Familiarity with email and online communication platforms (e.g., Slack, Teams, Zoom). </li><li>Experience handling multi-line phone systems and directing calls professionally. </li><li>Excellent verbal communication and customer service etiquette over the phone. </li><li>Ability to troubleshoot basic technical issues and assist in problem-solving. </li><li>Strong multitasking abilities: Skilled at documenting information accurately and efficiently while managing live phone conversations, ensuring real-time data entry without sacrificing call quality. </li><li>Ability to follow structured schedules and independently manage time and priorities. </li><li>Completion of an accredited Medical Assisting Program or equivalent (EMT). </li></ul> <p>Type Benefited Staff Special Instructions Summary Additional Information</p> <p>The University is a participating employer with Utah Retirement Systems ("URS").
