<p>It's a great time to join the City of Boulder!</p> <p>Application Deadline:</p> <p>May 18, 2025</p> <p>Compensation Details:</p> <p>Full Pay Range</p> <p>21.28 - 30.85</p> <p>Generally, the hiring range is from the minimum up to 80% of the range.This is a full-time hourly position.</p> <p>Scheduled Weekly Hours:</p> <p>40</p> <p>Benefit Eligibility Group:</p> <p>Seasonal Max</p> <p>Locate the Benefit Eligibility Group value on the Employee Benefit Eligibility document to identify the benefits offered for this job.</p> <p>Job Description Summary:</p> <p>Under direct supervision, the Comprehensive Planning Trainee performs various duties to support the Comprehensive Planning program and gain experience in long range land use planning and community engagement through projects that implement the Boulder Valley Comprehensive Plan.</p> <p>Job Description:</p> <p>ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES</p> <ul> <li>Conducts research and prepares summaries of various planning concepts. </li><li>Produces documents using Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite (mainly InDesign and Illustrator). </li><li>Supports GIS-based analysis and map production. </li><li>Assists in creating and updating planning databases and reports. </li><li>Uses graphic design to convey planning concepts to community members and policy makers. </li><li>Communicates verbally, answers planning questions and explains planning concepts to community members. </li><li>Assists with and participates in community meetings. </li><li>Supports preparation of staff memos and presentations. </li><li>Attends staff meetings and training events. </li></ul> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS</p> <ul> <li>Ability to be a self-starter and take ownership of project deliverables. </li><li>Ability to be flexible and ask for guidance when needed. </li><li>Ability to complete work in a timely and consistent manner. </li><li>Ability to demonstrate strong notetaking and writing skills. </li><li>Ability to work as part of a team. </li><li>Knowledge of and ability, interest and desire to communicate courteously and effectively with the public and city staff and to provide excellent customer service both in person and over the telephone. </li><li>Knowledge of urban planning, land use, and zoning principles. </li><li>Skill in utilizing Teams email/communication/meeting software. </li><li>Skill with Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite. </li><li>Valid Driver's License and ability to maintain an acceptable motor vehicle record. </li><li>Have and maintain acceptable background information, including criminal conviction history. </li></ul> <p>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of community outreach and engagement of stakeholders. </li><li>Bachelor's or Master's degree in planning, landscape architecture, environmental design, architecture, urban design or a related field. </li><li>Experience with ESRI ArcGIS or ArcUrban. </li></ul> <p>REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE</p> <ul> <li>Current student or some education in planning, landscape architecture, environmental design, architecture, urban design or a related field. </li><li>Experience is not required. </li></ul> <p>SUPERVISION</p> <p>Supervision Received: Comprehensive Planning Senior Manager</p> <p>Supervision Exercised: None</p> <p>WORKING CONDITIONS AND REQUIREMENTS</p> <ul> <li>Physical and Mental Effort: Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities that permits the employee to communicate effectively. Sufficient vision or other powers of observation that permits the employee to review, evaluate and prepare a variety of written documents and materials. Sufficient manual dexterity that permits the employee to operate computer equipment and other office equipment. Sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, which permits the employee to work in an office setting.
