<p>This position is located at the Lebanon VA Medical Center in Lebanon, PA. The incumbent practices as a licensed practical nurse (LPN) as a member of an interdisciplinary team (IDT) caring for veterans associated with the Ambulatory Surgical Unit (ASU)/Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU).</p> <p>VA Careers - Licensed Practical Nurse: https://youtube.com/embed/Ae85IP1Oiz4</p> <p>Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional</p> <p>The LPN is directly supervised by the nurse manager (NM) of ASU and is responsible for multiple aspects of care delivery for medical and surgical patients. The LPN is capable of independent critical thinking but is a member of the care team and under the supervision of the registered nurse (RN) and physicians.</p> <p>Duties include, but are not limited to:</p> <ul> <li>Interviewing patients, performing screenings and general systems appraisal of the patient's condition, collecting objective and subjective data and assisting the RN and surgical/medical providers with care management. </li><li>Collaborating with the RN in respect to developing and implementing an individualized treatment plan and transitioning the patient throughout the continuum of care to the point of discharge from the PACU. </li><li>Evaluates and observes patient's level of acuity and reports changes to the RN, provider or NM. Assists in the coordination and transfer of the patient to another level of care. </li><li>Coordinates with all levels of staff regarding appropriate sequence of procedures and care. </li><li>Modifies the patient's plan of care in accordance with recognized nursing standards and prescribed treatment. </li><li>Meets patient's needs by direct physical care and psychosocial intervention and by assuming responsibility for nursing management of complex patients, including patients with various medical and psychiatric conditions. </li><li>Observes patients for physical and/or emotional changes in patient condition, documenting changes, interventions and responses, and reporting any deviations to the RN and provider. </li><li>Promotes a positive patient/family/staff relationship by utilizing appropriate therapeutic communication skills. All interactions should embrace the ICARE Core Values. </li><li>Safeguards the patient's right to privacy, follows HIPAA compliance-via paper documentation, electronic or verbal methods, and promotes the patient's self determination. </li><li>Performs supportive duties for diagnostic procedures, which include preparing the patient and monitoring their condition. </li><li>Responsible for inserting peripheral intravenous (IV) sites prior to a multitude of treatments, procedures or surgeries. </li><li>Will possess prioritization skills, ability to multi-task in a fast paced, high stress environment, organizational skills and be able to transition between multiple roles within the ASU/PACU environment, including but not limited to: </li><li>Making pre-op phone calls </li><li>Preparing patients for care in the pre-procedure/surgery area </li><li>Working in PACU </li><li>Transporting patients </li><li>Cross training to cover the Pain Clinic </li></ul> <p>Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm, occasionally 7:00am - 3:30pm to support the needs of the unit.</p> <p>Recruitment Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): Not Authorized</p> <p>Permanent Change of Station (Relocation Assistance): Not Authorized</p> <p>Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases. When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).</p> <p>Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)</p> <p>Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.</p> <p>Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.</p> <p>Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.</p> <p>Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA</p> <p>Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)</p> <p>Telework: Not Available</p> <p>Virtual: This is not a virtual position.</p> <p>Functional Statement #: PD06129F, PD06128F, PD06127F, and PD06126F</p> <p>Permanent Change of Station (PCS): Not Authorized</p> <p>Physical Requirements: The LPN must be able to perform work that requires regular and recurrent walking, bending, lifting 45 pounds (lbs), stooping, reaching, stretching, sitting, and similar activities supporting various weights.
