<p>About the Opportunity</p> <p>Reporting to the AVP HR - Benefits, Compliance and Global Mobility in University Human Resources, the Director Benefits is a strategic leader responsible for leading the development, management, and innovation of our comprehensive benefits programs serving faculty, staff, and international academic communities. The Director Benefits brings a global perspective, a commitment to excellence in employee experience, and a forward-thinking approach to cost efficiency and technology integration-aligned with the institution's mission of academic excellence and service.</p> <p>Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Develop and implement a forward-looking global benefits strategy that supports the academic mission, institutional goals, and the needs of a diverse and international employee population. </li><li>Oversee all aspects of faculty and staff benefits programs, including healthcare, retirement, wellness, tuition, leave policies, and international assignments. </li><li>Identify innovative, cost-effective solutions while ensuring compliance with local, national, and international regulations. </li><li>Leverage benefits technology platforms and HRIS systems to streamline processes, enhance the employee experience, and improve data analytics and reporting. </li><li>Collaborate with university leadership, faculty governance, and administrative partners to ensure transparency and alignment across schools, departments, and global campuses. </li><li>Develop and lead benefits communications strategies that educate and engage employees across academic, administrative, and international environments. </li><li>Manage vendor relationships and contracts to ensure service excellence and value; lead RFPs and negotiations when needed. </li><li>Provide thought leadership on benefits strategy during institutional change (e.g., global campus expansion, faculty mobility, postdoc needs, mergers). </li><li>Supervise and mentor a team of benefits professionals, fostering a high-performance, service-oriented culture. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree or relevant professional certifications preferred </li><li>10+ years of progressive experience in employee benefits administration, including significant experience in global benefits and higher education settings, with at least 5 years in a leadership role. </li><li>Proven success in developing and implementing strategic, employee-centered benefits programs with measurable impact. </li><li>Deep understanding of academic environments, including faculty benefits needs, unionized staff considerations, and international mobility. </li><li>Experience with benefits cost modeling, risk management, and data-driven decision-making. </li><li>Deep understanding of benefits-related compliance requirements across multiple jurisdictions. </li><li>Proven track record of implementing innovative benefits solutions that drive cost savings. </li><li>Proficiency with benefits and HR technologies (Workday). </li><li>Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills. </li></ul> <p>Personal Attributes:</p> <ul> <li>Strategic thinker with the ability to see beyond conventional solutions </li><li>Innovative problem-solver who consistently brings fresh ideas to the table </li><li>Customer-focused approach with a genuine commitment to employee satisfaction </li><li>Dynamic leader who inspires and motivates teams toward excellence </li><li>Adaptable and resilient in navigating complex challenges </li><li>Collaborative partner who builds strong relationships across all levels of the organization </li></ul> <p>Position Type</p> <p>Human Resources</p> <p>Additional Information</p> <p>Northeastern University considers factors such as candidate work experience, education and skills when extending an offer.</p> <p>Northeastern has a comprehensive benefits package for benefit eligible employees. Salary ranges are reviewed regularly and are subject to change.</p>
