<p>Posting Number Stu439P Working Title Rising Leader Peer Mentor (Summer Position) FLSA Exempt Student Pay Level Flex Advertised Pay Rate 15.00 Position Status Regular Student Employment Department Student Emp Student Affairs Job Summary/Basic Function</p> <p>This role is through a grant funded program from the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation known as Rising Leaders. The project is based on five key components: 1) self-discovery, 2) regional exploration, 3) academic experiences, 4) leadership, and 5) community engagement.</p> <p>Peer mentors will build meaningful relationships, provide guidance, and serve as role models, helping high school students set goals, navigate challenges, and prepare for academic and personal success. The goal of the Rising Leaders Program is to seek to engage rising high school seniors in civic engagement activities to make them aware of the needs within their local, regional, and global communities. These activities will promote self-exploration, personal skill building, and increase preparedness for life beyond high school. Our goal is to alleviate high school students' concerns regarding higher education, entering the workforce, or additional plans beyond graduation. As a Peer Mentor, you will support the Rising Leaders participants through these key components.</p> <p>Responsibilities:</p> <p>o Serve as mentor and role model for high school students, fostering a supportive and motivating environment</p> <p>o Assist students in navigating challenges and exploring opportunities for personal and academic development</p> <p>o Model professionalism, integrity, and effective leadership</p> <p>o Listen actively and provide feedback to support students' growth and confidence</p> <p>o Provide guidance and encourage positive decision-making, resilience, and self-advocacy</p> <p>o Understand and promote the benefits of civic engagement</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Current undergraduate with junior or senior standing </li><li>Must have attended Shepherd University for at least 2 semesters </li><li>Must be in good academic and conduct standings with the university </li><li>Must have a minimum of a 2.75 cumulative GPA </li><li>General understanding of Shepherd University operations, including departments, services, and campus layout </li><li>Must be available during training & program dates: </li><li>July 26, 2026 - August 1, 2026 </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Prior or current experience mentoring, tutoring, or coaching students </li><li>Prior or current leadership experience in campus organizations or community programs </li><li>Demonstrated professionalism, reliability, and accountability </li></ul> <p>Posting Date 02/11/2026 Close Date Special Instructions Summary</p>
