<p>Description</p> <p>The Utility Plant Operator Trainee will gain hands-on experience and knowledge in water and wastewater treatment operations. Under supervision, trainees will learn to perform key tasks to produce safe, high-quality drinking water and wastewater while maintaining cost efficiency. This position involves training in various water treatment processes and ensures safe and adequate service to the community.</p> <p>Duties and Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Water Quality Assurance: Ensure proper plant compliance by conducting routine process control tests and performing water sample analysis to measure chemical, physical, and microbiological properties. </li><li>Testing & Monitoring: Perform regular tests and monitor the quantity and quality of the treated or reuse water exiting the plant. </li><li>Maintenance & Record Keeping: Maintain detailed records of testing results and operational activities. Participate in cleaning and maintaining plant property and equipment. </li><li>Equipment Handling: Understand and operate tools and equipment used in the daily operations of the treatment facility. </li><li>Communication & Documentation: Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, documenting all relevant operational activities and reports. </li><li>Regulatory Compliance: Adhere to plant regulations, industry specifications, and ensure safe, compliant operation of treatment facilities. </li><li>Shift Requirements: This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week position. The role requires flexibility with a rotating shift schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as the facility operates 24/7 year-round. </li></ul> <p>Education, Experience, Licensing</p> <ul> <li>High school diploma or GED is required; equivalent education and/or experience is acceptable. </li><li>Preferred: At least six months of related experience in a utility or plant environment. </li><li>Must possess a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. </li></ul> <p>Training and Certification Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Completion of the Class (Level) C Operator Training Course within one year of employment, with successful exam completion within two years. </li><li>Completion of and certification for the Sacramento Course Volume One within six months of hire. </li><li>Completion of and certification for the Sacramento Course Volume Two within twelve months of hire. </li><li>Must pass the State Operator Exam with a minimum score of 50% within eighteen months of hire. </li><li>Obtain State Certification as a Class C Operator within two years of hire. </li></ul> <p>Supplemental Information</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of general maintenance equipment used at the plant and the ability to operate it effectively. </li><li>Strong understanding of preventative maintenance practices and general upkeep of equipment. </li><li>Proficiency in basic mathematics for chemical adjustments and operational calculations. </li><li>Ability to work as part of a team while maintaining focus on safety and operational standards. </li></ul> <p>Work Schedule:</p> <ul> <li>The work schedule will vary, and candidates must be able to work a rotating shift that includes day, night, weekend, and holiday shifts as needed. </li></ul> <p>To Learn More About Lee County Utilities: Watch our short informational video to learn more about our operations</p>
