<p>OVERVIEW</p> <p>This position will be based in a location to be determined, with statewide accountability. The beef quality assurance coordinator will contribute to the integrated (extension, research, and teaching) land-grant mission of Nebraska Extension and IANR as an effective scholar and citizen, including supporting student recruitment and IANR science literacy.</p> <p>The individual will provide strong statewide leadership for focused, comprehensive educational programs addressing Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) and Transportation Quality Assurance (TQA), including the coordination, development, and delivery of educational materials and programs that support the BQA and TQA programs while simultaneously contributing to the Nebraska Extension mission. This position will primarily target adult audiences but will also support relevant training for youth regarding Livestock Quality and Care Assurance. This extension professional will cooperate with the Nebraska Cattlemen, Nebraska Beef Council, and the BQA/TQA advisory committee to set priorities and implementation strategies for the BQA/TQA programs. They will also coordinate with private industry, government agencies, and other organizations that offer programs or products related to BQA/TQA. The role involves working with research and extension faculty in high-performing teams, including the coordination, development, and delivery of educational materials that support the BQA/TQA initiatives while simultaneously contributing to the Nebraska Extension mission.</p> <p>This twelve-month, non-tenure track position carries the title of extension instructor or open rank extension educator, depending on the candidate's level of education. Those possessing a graduate-level degree in the requested area of instruction will be considered for an open rank educator position, a full-time, promotable, non-tenure track appointment. Those in possession of an undergraduate degree in the requested area of instruction, will be considered for an instructor position, a full-time, non-promotable, non-tenure track appointment that will be renewed annually for a maximum of five years in the appointment. If hired as an instructor, the incumbent will be expected to make satisfactory progress toward and complete a master's degree within the initial five-year appointment period. As part of the Nebraska benefits package, UNL offers tuition remission for full-time employees, up to 15 credit hours per year. Once the master's degree is earned within that period, the position will advance to an assistant extension educator appointment.</p> <p>PROGRAMMATIC RESPONSIBILITIES (approximately 80%)</p> <ul> <li>Serves as a representative of the University of Nebraska and assumes responsibility for planning, marketing, conducting, and evaluating educational programs in subject matter areas for which responsibility has been assigned. Program emphasis will reflect the educational mission of the Nebraska Extension and will support the direction of the National Beef Quality Assurance program. All educational programs will be research-based and will produce scholarly outcomes. </li><li>Communicates regularly with Nebraska Cattlemen, Nebraska Beef Council, and the BQA/TQA advisory committee, continually assessing the issues and program content while assigning priority to programs, emphasizing high-priority issues and de-emphasizing low-priority ones. </li><li>Communicates and collaborates with other BQA state coordinators and National Cattlemen's Beef Association staff working in the program area to ensure the program direction is appropriate, strategic, forward-thinking, and provides a way for producers and transporters to meet the BQA/TQA requirements that exist in the production chain. </li><li>Develops a plan to inform these organizations about high-priority programs as well as de-emphasized programs. Commits time and resources according to the highest priorities. </li><li>Contributes as a team member. Engages and empowers faculty in Animal Science, Great Plains Veterinary Education Center, other Livestock Systems educators, and staff to coordinate a total program, promote effective working relationships and facilitate teamwork. </li><li>Assesses the impact of program efforts in assigned subject matter areas in a team or individual effort and reports these impacts to the Department of Animal Science, Nebraska Extension, advisory organizations, community and public leaders, the general public, and peers at conferences and meetings. </li><li>Develops and pursues a professional development plan to increase leadership skills, knowledge of subject matter areas, and interpersonal and team skills reflective of anticipated program needs. </li><li>Develops grant proposals and solicits external funding for partial or complete support of programming efforts. </li><li>Contributes to creating and maintaining a positive, professional image of the University of Nebraska. </li><li>Recruits potential students for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. </li><li>Develops and delivers proactive, innovative, and engaging educational programs and products, using teaching methods and strategies that have significant reach, engagement, and impact in your county, accountability region, and, as appropriate, statewide and nationally. </li><li>Establishes and sustains a strong local and regional clientele base and programming portfolio that is documented and shared with colleagues. </li><li>Engages and teaches in a collaborative learning and problem-solving environment, working with assistants, educators, and specialists to encourage learners to adopt research-based decision-making information. </li><li>Collaborates with specialists and research faculty to conduct applied and validation research (e.g., on-farm, ranch, or community) that can be amplified via multiple engagement platforms. </li><li>Shows robust contributions to multidisciplinary team settings with Extension professionals and other internal and external partners to translate and convey the latest research-based information. </li><li>Engages local, regional, and statewide partners to identify and address high-priority issues where Extension is particularly well positioned to contribute. </li><li>Fosters a culture of collaboration with local, regional and statewide leaders that nurtures and strengthens positive relationships among the University, its partners, and the people we serve. </li><li>Employs entrepreneurial practices to obtain funding and partnerships, enhancing Extension's program reach and impact. </li><li>Creates ongoing programming revenue that supports the viability of individuals, teams, units, and the System. </li><li>Supports youth development programs by contributing to areas related to your specific assignment. </li><li>Conducts needs assessments, identifies priorities, develops various program and engagement platforms, measures program impacts, and reports the results in your annual report as well as to Extension boards, County Commissioners and Supervisors, State Senators, key stakeholders, at professional meetings, and in professional and Extension publications when appropriate. </li><li>Collaborate with lead educators, Extension specialists, Extension advisory committees, and local stakeholders within their accountability region to assess needs and offer access to engagement opportunities through various platforms (e.g., focus groups, surveys, stakeholder meetings, etc.). </li><li>Completes PEARS data entry and reporting requirements. </li></ul> <p>ORGANIZATIONAL CITIZENSHIP/LEAD EDUCATOR ROLE (approximately 20%)</p> <ul> <li> <p>Serves in, contributes to, or supports the specific Lead Educator roles as described in the Roles and Responsibilities of the Lead Educator document found at https://myextension.unl.edu/lead-educator-position-description as determined in partnership with the supervisor(s).</p> </li><li> <p>Coordinates with Engagement Zone Coordinator(s) and other Extension professionals locally and in accountability region to develop a robust Nebraska Extension presence by</p> </li><li> <p>Cooperating with local faculty and staff in a team environment to promote Extension's educational opportunities and impact in the host county.</p> </li><li> <p>Cultivating a culture of collaboration with local leaders and community members that builds positive relationships between the University and the community.</p> </li><li> <p>Supporting engagement of advisory or policy groups such as the Extension Board, Ag Society, or County Commissioners/Board of Supervisors.</p> </li><li> <p>Understands and adheres to Equal Employment Opportunities;
