<p>Job Description:</p> <p>BROAD FUNCTION:</p> <p>The Engineering Science and Technology Department is searching for a full-time tenure track faculty welding instructor position. Major responsibilities of this position include college-level teaching of Welding Technology courses and laboratories in content areas such as welding techniques, welding safety, metallurgy, blueprint reading, and welding inspection. Must have knowledge of MIG, TIG and Stick welding applications and technique. Additional responsibilities include academic advising, curriculum development, participation on committees, and collaboration with colleagues to assess student learning outcomes.</p> <p>The successful candidate will be qualified to teach several of the following classes and labs:</p> <ul> <li>WLD 121 Shielded Metal Arc Welding I </li><li>WLD 122 Gas Metal Arc Welding I </li><li>WLD 123 Gas Tungsten Arc Welding I </li><li>WLD 131 Welding Fabrication </li><li>WLD 222 Advanced Arc Welding </li><li>MET 252 Physical Metallurgy </li><li>WLD 223 Weld Certification & Inspection </li><li>Other technical courses as necessary </li></ul> <p>Knowledge of welding applications in demand by local industry is also valued, including, but not limited to: Welding automation, welding inspection and testing, and welding safety protocols.</p> <p>MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Be responsive to student questions and available for student support. </li><li>Use appropriate technology to enhance learning. </li><li>Assess learning outcomes and adapt curriculum to meet learning objectives. </li><li>Demonstrate insight and encouragement in working with diverse student populations, especially students traditionally underrepresented in higher education. </li><li>Provide appropriate academic advising to students to support timely degree completion. </li><li>Be innovative in the presentation of lectures and hands-on learning activities that achieve learning outcomes. </li><li>Provide timely feedback on students' assignments and exams throughout each semester. </li><li>Be accountable to meet the needs of the Department and the College, including timely submission of grades and other required materials. </li></ul> <p>Requirements:</p> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <p>Appointment at the Rank of Instructor:</p> <ul> <li>Associate's degree in Welding Technology or a closely allied relevant technical field; or </li><li>Industry-recognized professional license or certifications; and </li><li>Minimum of five years of full-time related industry experience. </li></ul> <p>Appointment at the Rank of Assistant Professor:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering or a closely allied in related discipline of engineering or relevant technical field. </li><li>Industry-recognized professional license or certification. </li><li>Minimum of three years of full-time employment in Welding or a closely allied field. </li></ul> <p>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Background in teaching, college level courses preferred </li><li>Demonstrated connections with local industry </li><li>Experience with various welding techniques and equipment </li><li>Prior teaching experience directly related to welding </li><li>Bilingual in Spanish & English (English and another language also will be considered) </li></ul> <p>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite of products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project); </li><li>Familiar with some or all of the following software programs: </li><li>AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Fusion 360 </li><li>Welding simulation software </li><li>Inspection and testing software </li></ul> <p>Additional Information:</p> <ul> <li> <p>The 2025-2026 starting salary for the rank of Instructor is $53,045 and Assistant Professor is $59,676.</p> </li><li> <p>Onondaga Community College offers a generous and competitive benefits package including:</p> </li><li> <p>New York State Teacher's Retirement System or TIAA enrollment.</p> </li><li> <p>Excellent health and dental insurance plans (qualifying domestic partner included).</p> </li><li> <p>As a public employer Onondaga Community College participates in the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program for eligible borrowers.</p> </li><li> <p>The position also offers an attractive academic year schedule with opportunities for additional work during off-hand periods consistent with student enrollment needs and workforce development opportunities.</p> </li><li> <p>During each fall and spring semester, teaching typically occurs Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 10:30 pm. Schedules, including required office hours, are selected in advance for each semester.
